ED 160?

I just read a post where the Golden Umax has more like an ED 160 range instead of the 120. Would that be about the same as my Royal Sabre? Doesn't the Golden have an a/m mode w/tones? Has anyone ever set the disc level at min. and noticed if foil is automatically rejected? Thanks.

THAT is an awesome eye-opening article. That pretty much keeps my eye on the Golden a little longer. I thought that maybe I shouldn't even consider the Golden since my Royal appears to have something like an ED 160, since it won't pick up small pieces of foil. Now in reality, for the places I hunt, getting rid of the tiny foil satisfies, but I DID find several tiny gold rings with my Silver umax set at min-which will pick up tiny pieces of foil. To me, the Golden would actually REPLACE all my other machines because it would have the versatility of the min. disc., and I could still raise the low end disc if in too trashy areas(like my Royal), and STILL have the notch feature for the high trash areas. And since I have a nice Tesoro bag, I would only have to carry ONE detector on my bicycle with the upcoming warmer season. And with the tones, it seems to be like having FOUR detectors in one-coin and jewelry hunter's dream.

Geeez! Got this bassackwards. My Royal would have something like 120-or less. Makes the Golden even MORE appealing. Anywho, at min disc, the Royal is getting rid of some foil that the Silver picks up.

I did a test i put a dime 3.5" deep put a box staple derectly over it and i still got the high tone that is whith the disq all the way back and that whith the stock coil I can tell you this it is good at picking thru things

I think you might have already read some of most posting on this topic. There have been quite a few times I have addressed this.

The Golden

Thanks, Monte. Heck, I couldn't get rid of it on just the fact that it has found so many coins in "tab hell". I even found a silver half about 8" in the ACCEPT mode because there were so many screwcaps. I'm considering a 5.75" coil to "update" it's effectiveness-and to quit working my tail off so much with the 4" coil:biggrin: Somehow or another, I bet a Compadre is gonna slip it's way in there-I just sold some tiny earrings and small stuff for $130 and that has a way of changing your mind about digging trash. And I promised Tab if he got better, I'd get one.

... an interesting test. Do you think an older red clay brick might simulate the homestead rock? (Although I haven't gone to the shed to grab a brick and try it out).

low-conductive, similar to coal clinkers, etc.

Similar challenges can come from pea-size gravel and larger rocks that are sometimes used in playgrounds. I've encountered some that are not all that nasty so far as mineralization goes, but others are a challenge. I've made a day of working playgrounds )tot lots) with some friends and they would set their discrimination to reject iron nails or a little more, and then they only planned to recover targets that gave them a 'proper' target ID.

At the end of the day, or part way thru when they'd ask how I was able to be finding so many targets, I explained that there were two simple requirements to success:

1.. I was using an ED-180 discrimination type detector (A Tesoro Compadre, Eldorado

with respect to:
"2.. If I had visual TID I ignored it because most/all coins and desireable targets read 'off' and most of the time as Iron."

I find I get more goodies in the dirt with the Tesoros than with my Fisher CZs mainly because I have trouble completely ignoring the TID information, both tone and display with the CZs!

I can get most if not all of the same information with the Tesoro, but because it has that gray area in the information and not a specific different tone and display, that nagging doubt makes me dig.

Entirely operator quirk!!

Thanks for the re-enforcement on low discrimination and dig.
