ebay

I have purchased 5 metal detectors on eBay and have sold 3 metal detectors.

The metal detectors I purchased were all as described by the seller.

You can check out the seller. Knowing how to do that takes lots of explaining.

But some things are obvious like their feed back score and comments.

You need to have a Pay Pal account for security reasons and to make things go smooth.

I've had better results on eBay than I have had with retailers on the Internet.

I can check out the seller easier on eBay.

It takes some research to become a good eBay buyer.

Or, like most people you can learn by trial and error.

The last method works but is more costly in the beginning.

HH,

All of the detectors we have came off of eBay. No problems.

When you purchase a metal detector on Ebay do your homework.Check the seller's transaction record, stay away from seller's who don't use Paypal and have low or bad feedback number's.Read the description two or three times. If the deal is too good to be true it usually is.I buy and sell on Ebay there's a lot of ways to make or loose money. I have found some great metal detectors on Ebay at a good price Dealer's are much safer.Good Luck.

Like everyone says is to check the feedback and other items they have sold to see what people say. Even there you can run into some problems too. I have bought several and 3 were bad I got, one returned my money as they said the got it at a garage sale, the other 2 claimed it worked perfect when shipped. One of these had been around salt as there was rust on it and the battery contacts where gone, so there was no way it could have worked and felt I got stuck with it.Good thing it had insurance as it took 6-7 weeks and got my money back from the Post Office I paid for it . The other one was also told worked perfect, but when I got it it just made a loud noise and wouldn't pick up anything and was told it must have got damaged in shipping, so we turned a claim in and I had to send it to Whites to see what it cost to fix. I got it back with a $160 repair bill which the Post office paid me for. It was a total of 6 weeks before I got to use it. Whites said the coil was bad and replaced it plus said it look like it got wet at one time too. I feel it was bad when it was shipped.
I like my Sovereigns and bought several off E Bay and got 2 that had been opened up and tinkered with the tones as they were set as high as it could go, so it was hard to tell the difference in the tones, but I knew how to adjust them back to where they should be. Now I ask if these have been any mods done or tinkered with before I buy them.
I just remembered another one I bought off E Bay, a Sovereign original from a lady out East and sent the money order and never seen a detector, so I E mailed her and was told she hadn't mailed it yet and would the next day. After another 2 weeks and no detector or reply to my E Mails I seen her feedback get 5 negatives in 3 days as she didn't ship to them either. One of them contacted me and gave me the local sheriff name as they turned in a complaint and thought I should too. Being several people did she was investigated and told this was a Felony Internet fraud and gave her a week to produce the items to him and he got them all shipped out to the people. Took a good 2 months before I got my Sovereign, but at least got it.
Like others say I now only will buy from those that take Pay-pal and haven't had a problem.

hello all, i bought a bh tracker 4 on ebay for a friends birthday, it was CHEAP and in almost new condition. it arrived as promised and my friend is very happy. no issues there. i learned through experience a long time ago that im better off buying my machines from private hands and avoiding dealers - because they are just that - dealers. its buyer beware no matter who or where you buy from...

Hi Have bought many machines on E bay. The ratio is about fifty / fifty. Most people are honest but some outright lie. Best to e mail them and ask very specific questions. If you don't get a timely or decent reply, DON'T BUY! Most of my disappointments were from buying older machines, and because I jumped the gun and bid without asking enough questions. Don't be in a hurry, whatever you see there one day will be there another day again, for sure. Good luck.

I bought hundreds upon hundreds of items on ebay and it was a very positive experience.
Only a very few items were misrepresented, and I only ran into two crooks. Lost $'s there, never recovered.
I did sell some things, and it was always a positive deal.

Over that time I met some really great folks.

 I have been an Ebayer for several years now and never had a problem. One thing to watch out for is the used metal detectors that are 10 years old or older (especially the ones 20 years old or older). The electronic circuitry has a tendency to "dry out" and the capacitors can "crack". That's why I can't understand why people are paying big bucks for some of the really old metal detectors. It's much safer to get one that is 6 years old or less. Always ask the seller how old the detector is or ask your metal detecting buddies on-line. Good luck! DF:cool:

I've just recently bought a detector off of ebay, great communication with the seller was the key, plus his 100% feedback.
I had been looking for a detector for over 2 months, about 2 weeks ago, one of those too good to be true detectors came along. New seller zero feedback, to low of a price, I sent 3 e-mails to this seller and got no response. I didn't bid, but watched others bid. I tracked it even after it sold, and watched his feedback go to -1. Be patient, and a good deal will come along, don't be shy, ask any question you would like to know. If they are a good seller, they will answer your questions in a timely matter.

Good Luck, JB

I have made a lot of good deals on Ebay but bad ones also. Gal in Warwick RI still has 500.00 for a Minelab that she didn't ship.

$500 Ron lost is not something to sneeze at... sry to hear abt it!

Since we are such a jovial fraternity of benevolent individuals, couldn't we make use of the various metal detector clubs around the country in some degree to assist in the long distance deals?

Or could it become too much of a liability or burden?

I have had next to no problems with eBay

I've had more problems with retailers than I have with buying on eBay.

I like eBay. Nothing is risk free. I mean even if you do "nothing", then your a couch potato and you're going to have a hart attack. You got to go for it.

Best thing to do is spread fun:wiggle:

HH,

I have bought and sold world wide about 200 units sooner or later you will run into a problem.
