Ebay purchase

Just bought an excalibur off ebay. Got it yesterday. All it does is let out a constant howl. I've adjusted and played with all the setting so I know it's not that. Should you be able to see the circuit board thru the case? Mine looks foggy.
Guy didnt have much feedback and not answering my emails. Dont have a good feeling about this.....

Check the battery pack. you should have 12V or a little better. Provided you have a voltmeter.
HH

Like Art says, check and charge the battery first as a low battery will do this.
When you say foggy, doest it look like moisture, if it is then it has gotten water in it and the detector may be bad and will have to send it in.
That is the bad thing about E Bay as some just dump the junk they cant sell or know it is bad, then tell you it worked perfect when they sent it. I got 2 items like this, a receiver with parts missing and a Whites detector with battery contact missing, odd how it worked perfect when sent without the parts isnt it?

If it were me, I'd send him 10 emails an hour until he replied and gave me what he promised on his auction.
If you find out that unit is defective and was sold as working, don't let the seller get away with that, contact ebay and let them know. There are too many crooks on ebay as it is.

I can't see my circuit board...if the Minelab sticker for the housing was missing I guess I could...I just looked at mine and the sticker is starting to come off...I also read if you see moisture in housing to shut it off due to condensation...I am having a problem with trusting an underwater detector...I haven't submerged mine yet since purchase...But i did buy a wet suite so that day will be coming...Crossing my fingers that all is ok...this thing is moocho bucks...Good luck Sid!

if you payed thru paypal with a credit card dispute the charges thru the card, if paypaled with account contact paypal NOW. file complaints thru ebay paypal squaretrade just to start.if payed by check stop payment, if by money order contact issuer.

Ouch... Personally I've had great luck with all my eBay purchases... but I restrict my purchases to sellers with a high number of feedbacks and a rating of 99% or better. I have yet to get ripped off.
How did you pay for the detector? If you paid via PayPay you may be eligible for up to $1000.00 worth of buyer protection.

If you paid via Money Order or check... you still have recourse via eBay:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/esppp-process.html
FYI: Now that you purchased the detector you can request the sellers contact information "including" the sellers phone number! I'd keep calling him until he has his phone disconnected! Heres the link:

NOTE: "DO NOT" leave any feedback for the seller (Positive or Negative) "until" you are completely satisfied with your purchase. Once you leave feedback you have less leverage with the seller. IF you leave positive...their off the hook. If you leave negative they will may be pissed off and not respond to your emails.

he will need to respond to this or ebay will consider you right and he will then nedd to refund your money...if you used paypal then open a dispute with them also,if you used paypal and he doesnt respond to them they will get your money back....go through the proper channels and make sure all your emails to him are done through ebay as they will then have a record of the deal....good luck....make sure you keep hammering this loser and make it so miserable for him that it becomes easier to just give your cash back////also definately get his phone number and call him...that as fixed many deals, something bout a call makes people worried...good luck

I just had my Excalibur serviced from Minelab USA. I can see thru the bottom area where There looks to be a few solder areas.
I hope you get things worked out.

Was just wondering if this took care of the problem.
This is one thing when the battery is low it will give out a loud threshold that can not be adjusted.
If I remember right the plastic housing is not clear, but foggy looking.
Rick

The BS was writen in black and white for you. I picked up on it right away. Here the bottom description reads.. I've used this unit 5 times. Twice at Sebastian Inlet and 3 times at the Ft. Lauderdale Beach area. There is a very slight blemish near the discrimination knob caused by my finger rubbing the housing. Other than that this unit is super clean and the coil is in near perfect condition. Again, no B.S. excellent condition. Here's the line the BS line... There is a very slight blemish near the discrimination knob caused by my finger rubbing the housing. Bullshit! Your not going to get that kinda wear on the decal, only using it five times at the beach. Be careful! If you payed paypal they might be able to help you. They help me once. Good Luck

Had the same problem with my Excal. Bad coil. About a $200 fix. :cry

I wouldn't be surprised if you find this to be a bogus post. :rage

I could be wrong, but it certainly looks like one to me.

Iv'e bought and sold/swapped several detectors and detecting stuff, but I just can't make myself do E bay, every time i think about it, i hear stories like this, and my daughter in law got burnt twice at christmas time on items big$$ too.
Guess i'll just stick to the guys i know, wish you the best on settling this, :sad ,Some people have no problems, but i think I'll leave well enough alone :geek:

Something just dont sound right here and as you notice he hasnt responded yet. I looked at the E Bay ad and he also gave the guy a positive feedback. :confused
