Thought I would post this if people want an inexpensive, nice little digger. I bought this tough little spade on clearance at Meijer for $2.00, but I'm sure you can find one marked down anywhere this time of year especially in the north. It was about 4" wide toward the handle, so I ground it down to about 2-1/2" so its a nice slender little digger. I also sharpened the sides a bit when I was done, and it works great!

I broke 3 of them before I got the ames 7 in 1 garden tool, and I have yet to bend of break it! those cheapies break too easy!

The ones with stems to hold the shovel part to the handle don't survive very
well around here. I got one of those with my machine when I bought it, and I
think it lasted about 3 days before I broke the shovel off.
I bought another one at home depot which is way more solid, and pretty
much "one piece". Even has a bonus ruler on the blade to measure depth.
I don't think I'll ever break it.
But, I really don't use a digger too much. I use my probe 95% of the time.
I do much less damage to grass with the probe, vs a digger.
