EASY GROUND BALANCING 4 U

I know that a lot of operators who are starting out or even veterans find that it a really an act to ground balance their detectors. If you own a Tesoro ground balance units such Outlaw, Vaquero, Tejon, Bandido II uMax etc, that has a ground balance control WITHOUT silent search has a easy fool proof way to quickly make a proper ground balance!
Back in the days you always first had to select all metal and adjust your (GB) control and then switch into discriminate. Well you can set up you unit and lower the discriminate mode to the lowest setting and once turned on you can use your discriminate mode to properly set the ground balance without going into the all metal mode!

Due that the discrimination has the same tracking as the all metal mode, here is a short cut I been using for as many years, only when the discrimination is is tied into the ground balance mode. Set up your unit as normal and select discrimination mode. Pump the coil to and away from the ground, if you have audio changes and responsive to the ground just increase the GROUND BALANCE control while pumping up and down. When you properly adjusted the ground balance control while in discrimination mode to where you raising and lower with out any change in the audio, then you are perfectly ground balanced!

If you have the older 10 turn controls such as the Eldorado metal box and any other VLF/disc. that does not have a preset discrimination will work as well. Compass Gold Scanners with the am/euro switch in the euro side will work the same. Most older Whites such as the 5900 work too.

I know I was spoiled when it came to a gb machines all of my early good ones were preset gb so when I got the vaq it was not a easy thing to do for me you tend to second guess yourself but with practice you can master it. Now I have a Deepteck vista smart plus it's so easy to gb . You pump it up and down if you hear a high tone you turn the knob right until it goes guite,if you get a low tone you turn knob left until it goes quite so simple.

When i GB my UK version of the Vaquero all i do is hold the pinpoint button in(which is AM mode) and then adjust GB knob too the ground conditions,only takes seconds,or if i just want a quick detecting session on good clean ground then my machine also came from the factory with the fixed GB option as well,so i can either use it in manual GB or fixed GB mode.

But of course the best option is always going to be the manual GB method,this is of course just how i use it on my machine.

I personally don't see how some struggle with it. Never even touched a detector before I got the Vaquero and have had no problems. If someone can read and follow basic instructions, if not, there are youtube videos that show how to do it. If it's still a problem, you should not be driving a car then. Sorry, guess that's being unreasonable in this day and age though. haha...

You do shave a little incorrect information in your post, however.

All of these Tesoro models DO have a 'silent search' Discriminate mode.

Also, if you 'Power Balance' for a most functional setting in the motion-based Discriminate mode, that is exactly what you have ---- a 'proper' or most functional GB in the Disc. mode.

It will NOT be a 'proper' Ground Balance is searching in the Threshold-based All Metal mode. Generally, in most mineralized ground ,a Disc. mode GB adjustment will result in a Negative GB setting for All Metal mode searches.

Depending upon who you're addressing and what make and model detector they are using, that could depend. "Back in the days" since Tesoro models have been in my working battery, and that was July of '83, I have always preferred to adjust my Ground Balance in the All Metal mode for searching in the All Metal mode, but I employed the 'Power Balance' technique when I was/am hunting in the silent-search Discriminate mode because I knew that provided me the most functional setting for that mode.

Due that the discrimination has the same tracking as the all metal mode, here is a short cut I been using for as many years, only when the discrimination is is tied into the ground balance mode.

The Discriminate modes on ALL Tesoro models are either preset or tied in with a manual GB adjustment. That GB adjustment could be an internal trimmer or an external variable GB control. NO Tesoro model uses a 'tracking' circuitry for their Discriminate mode GB setting.

Some models, like the DeLeón have internal GB trimmer adjustment for the All Metal and Discriminate modes, and the current Cortés has an external manual GB control for the All Metal mode but an internal GB trimmer for the Discriminate mode. The only 'tracking' GB unit is the Lobo SuperTRAQ, and it only tracks the GB in the All Metal mode. The Discriminate mode's GB is internally preset.

All other Tesoro models have the Discriminate mode GB reference off the GB trimmer [size=small](internal)[/size] or external manual GB setting. There are differences, however, because most Tesoro models tend to have a designed 'offset' in the Discriminate mode such that the Disc. mode is just slightly more positive than the All Metal mode's GB setting.

In the end, with most Tesoro models, a 'proper' or 'spot-on' and functional GB in the All Metal mode results in a slightly positive GB in the Discriminate mode. The reverse is also true, that a 'proper' or 'spot-on' GB in the Discriminate mode will leave the All Metal mode with a slightly negative GB setting.
