Easy Digging

Well-known member
Larry and I went out and did some detecting today. The ground couldn't have been better for digging. I came home with a bit over $2 in clad and a 1958 Wheat and 1942 Merc.

We also hit a tot-lot and that's where I found the two U.S. Marine advertising dog tags. I was pretty excited when I found them till I read they weren't real. Oh well, still had a fabulous day detecting.

I used my stock coil for hunting the private property and then my BigFoot for the tot-lot.

For once, I found silver and Larry didn't. :twodetecting:  HH, Nancy

Nice to nab a chunk of silver. It sure comes along a lot slower than it used to and makes us appreciate it more.

Nancy, I trust you're using your standard MXT, so unless it was the '300' version than you mean you used the 'standard' 950 coil for the private property?

As for the BigFoot coils, I have tried them since their first introduction but for me and the types of sites I prefer to search, they just never have been a 'fit' in my arsenal. My back-pack coil & rod bag has a 12" spider Concentric for the times I am cache hunting or after larger-size artifacts (railroad locks for example), but the other two coils I have in the bag or mounted to my MXT All-Pro are the 9" spider Concentric or 6½" (5.3 Eclipse) Concentric. Those are the only coils I have and use for my MXT All-Pro and MX5. Even had a newer BigFoot I got on a detector trade a year ago, but just couldn't adapt to it, I guess because of both the size and trash in my preferred sites.

Glad it works for you and it's obvious your site selection also works to your advantage with good rewards.

Thanks Monte, and yes, it was the standard 950 coil on my MXT. The MXT is still going strong. It's at the age where it's sentimental to me.

As for the BigFoot, I wouldn't part with it. At times I'll go do the tot-lots and I can get so much coverage and also right up to the playground equipment. Even if the lot as been detected, so many other coils can't get up close and I tend to find many coins that way.

I too have a few more coils and I think that the little 5.3" coil would be me second option for coils when hunting private property.

I sent you a PM

Nice stuff. Glad to hear y'all got to go out and dig. We were expecting rain this weekend but looks like Sunday has opened up. Looks like another backup spot to hit. No bullets this time but a possible old homesite. Good luck hunting. Robert

I wish you lots of good detecting and I'll be watching out for all your finds at the old home place. HH,Nancy
