Earth Marble - Test

tab-nabit

Well-known member
Test pic on a glass Earth marble - with A470.
Tried with a Panasonic Lumix TZ5, but could not get the focus to settle down at all - maybe because no manual mode:shrug:
Thinking that the depth in the glass is screwing everything up, including me:blink:
I sure ain't no camera guy:devil:
With all the jars of marbles, I guess I'm wasting my time:veryangry:
Maybe I'll jump back in the store to add a DSLR on top of what I already have, d u r n - i t:sadwalk:

But I'll still keep the A470 and TZ5 for other uses. Oh well...

Those don't look all that bad to an old guy who can't see straight anyway. The bottom ones look like there is more back light coming through, which probly helps. A couple of things that may be messing with your mind here - - the depth of focus field is very short in a macro situation, though I don't see a zone that looks particularly sharper here; and as far as I know, most/all auto-focus systems look for LINES to zero in on, usually of the vertical type and the closest to the lens. Feeding it an auto focus problem of figuring out what do do with a translucent globe is probly a bigger load than it is prepared to handle. Plus, if you are hand-holding and wobbling in and out ever so slightly - the shutter is likely to go off while the auto focus is still settling in on that little thin DOF. You eXperts out there can chime in here ! :drinking:
