Ears on the 15" coil thicker?

I know there has been some issues with the ears on the 11" coil breaking. Has anyone had issues with the 15" coil ears? They seem thicker, but Im not sure how much.
 
The 15" looks to be approximately 1mm thicker. No issues so far with either, but I do not go in the water.
