Hi Gang,
When my detector battery got low the other day, I started checking various things on the machine because I didn't think the battery was low enough to cause the odd signals I was hearing. As it turned out, the battery was the culprit, but in checking for the problem's source I discovered that both of the cable connectors had become loose. I had to turn the loop connector about one turn and the earphone connector several turns to "snug" them up tight!
I can't remember this ever happening before. The control is shaft mounted and the detector is kept handy in my truck. Somehow handling and vibration must have loosened them. I don't want to over tighten them, my mechanical experience knows what that can lead to, so I will be sure to check them more often after this!!
Hope this is useful information to you.
