Early observations on AT PRO

I just got my AT PRO a few days ago and am very pleased at the various features and functions of the machine. First, the build quality seems to be excellent. The buttons have a crisp quality feel to them. The various functions like ground balance, Frequency adjust, Iron audio, Pro settings and Standard settings work well with the pro settings seeming to be one to two inches deeper. Max depth averages 10 to 12 inches on coins in air. This is very adequate for average depth of my deepest coins in Indiana soil. I have found coins with strong signals as deep as 8 inches. My only concern is learning some of the sounds in the Pro mode. I just need to learn them. The Iron audio feature is outstanding and works well in trash. My other detector is an F70 Fisher and it does go deeper. In fact I can get coin signals in air out to 15 inches. I have found dimes at 9 inches with it. I think these two detectors have enought different features to cover most conditions I will encounter in my style of detecting. I also believe Garrett has solved its quality issues and have listened to its customers and followed through. Stay tuned for my finds in the future.

Coinseeker, I am especially interested in what you think...primarily, the ease of going from the F70 to the AT.
I hope to have this machine some day for my water hunting/rainy day unit, and hope the two are so similar, that the mental transition is easy..
weight and balance, tones, battery life...recovery speed...any observations you can think of with your experience with the two would be most helpful indeed!

Thats amazing depth for the F70 to detect at 15 inches. I thought mist peoiple found the At Pro to be deeper then most of the competition.

I just got my F70 back from repair of dirt behind the lens and they must have tweaked it or something. Before I sent it in it would go 12 to 13 inches in air. The AT Pro is not as deep as the Fishers F series and most Fisher CZ models.

The one thing that drove me nuts is when you order coils, they do not come with the caps or the lanyards...I called up Garrett, and they are sending me 4 new caps and lanyards for my new coils (No charge!)
WTG Garrett, but they should be on the coils when we order them...Keeping those connectors clean is EVERYTHING on the AT Pro and Gold.
Also, the Pro Pointer design should be modified to eliminate the LED, and make the switch more waterproof...You have All Terrain detectors...We need All Terrain Pin Pointers...You don't want folks going to Vibra Probe on ya...
Better yet....Offer the Land version AND the water version of the Pro Pointer and AT Pro Pointer...

HH,

Seconded, GGG. I have electrical tape over the speaker of my ProPointer and have used it in shallow water a few times without problems, but I think I'll get the silicone sealer out and hit the led and switch. Also, my coil cover didn't last long (lots of rocky ground here). I Just hit the coil with the truck bed liner again, extra thick this time. Last time, I also did the tip of the ProPointer, but this time I just masked off the switch and speaker and hit the whole thing. It's usually in my left hand clanking against the Lesche, and the yellow lettering was wearing off, anyhow. A few little tweaks would make a great combo even better.
