Early morning photos of my "pond"

The lighting is always funky at the edge of my property, alway too dark, I used the Auto setting on my Nikon 775 and those shots had the flash go so I tried the scenery mode and that appeared to be the best setting. At least I got the reflections of the tree leaves in what is left of my pond.
The only reason water is there is that I dug a canal the length of it last week. In thirty years of living here it has never dried up like that.
There used to be chain pickeral, bluegills, catfish, mudpuppies, 7 spotted turtles, several painted, snapping and red-bellied turtles living here, but they have all taken to hiding somewhere in the mud till the water returns. Of course the herons, and water snakes and snapping turtles took care of the fish as the pond dried up. We had less than an inch of rain yesterday and that is the only reason there is water in the canal. Need a lot more rain to bring the worst drought in Southern New Jersey to end.

Don in South Jersey

realize it was so bad back there. I bet it is beautiful along the pond when it is full!

It has been a dry, exhausting summer for Mother Earth here, as well -- seems like the story all around the states. Your pond is extreme. Had a downpour a few nights ago -- the flora is happy to get anything it can! Critters, too! slurp. munch.

This drought is/was really a shame. I had pitcher plants, sundews and most of the swampy area surrounding is sphagum moss. I think all have been severly damaged by this drought and I believe the pitcher plants have died. The weatherman have predicted up to 4 inches of rain for Wednesday and Thursday. If so, I hope to post a before/after photo. Don
