Early Morning Low Tide Hunt

Hit the surflane again this morning from about 1:30 to 6:00. Had my new shaft-mounted waterproof LED light on and must say it was awesome. Dug quite a few targets but nothing like last night. And there were a lot less ULTRA DEEP ones, being the sand had shifted. Still had a good number of them but was also getting more fresh drops. And I never really found a "hot spot" to speak of...it was pretty much beg, borrow, or steal. Some was in the wet sand, some in the water.

Still, managed a couple nice chunks of silver. Both were down there a LONG time looks like. One was heavily tarnished and the other bent and scratched, consistent with years in the deep sand. I hit both with electrolysis as well as the "Amanda" pendant from last weekend. I know a guy at work who has a daughter named Amanda and I'm going to give it to him with a silver chain to go with it so he can give it to her. He's done some welding for me a couple of times on a scoop I had, so I need to keep him happy. :D

Here are some pics. Never ceases to amaze me what a little "shock therapy" will do for an old piece of silver.

i think i have all the needed gear, just lack the knowledge

heading down in 45mins. or so

were the CZ20 guys out last night?

I didn't see them last night if they were.

As for the shock treatment, here's a couple links that may help and I will be glad to furnish any additional info. There's more than one way to do it but I like the first link best. And I use Baking soda, where the 2nd link uses salt. I use a power brick from a set of Altec Lansing computer speakers that is 15v 800mA output. And a glass container I got at Big Lots and a fork that I got from the kitchen. :D

It works best on silver...jewelry or coins. And gold, should you have one that needs it. I tried it on a Large Cent and an Indian Head and toasted them, so I don't recommend using it on copper. But it will do wonders for those post-hurricane silver coins we find. I just hang the object in the tank and keep it about 2 inches from the fork...don't let them touch...and it will start to fizz. And with the fizzing will be a rotten egg smell. And the tarnish will loosen in just a few minutes. I usually let it go for about 3 minutes of fizzing and then take it out and scrub it under some warm water with some dish washing liquid. Black stuff comes off. Sometimes I gently scrub it with one of those "non-stick fry pan safe" scrubbies with a little dish washing liquid, rinse it, and shock it again if needed. It works very quickly and easily...you'll see.

Here's my rig:
