Early morning Indian head cents

Had to drive my wife to work today and since my favorite park was only a couple of miles away, you know where I headed after I dropped her off. Hunting the same area Park Pirate and I had some luck at yesterday, I was able to pull 2 indian head cents that were surrounded by iron. The soil in this part of the park is very kind to coppers and nickels so I knew they would clean up nice. The 1890 was the fifth of that date I have dug this year and a couple of them are in extremely great condition. I'll post of photo of the group.

Ed, I wish Indians in my area were as nice as the ones you are digging. Very seldom can I get a date off of one. Great looking coins!

Mark, I pour about 1/4" of hydrogen peroxide in a plastic dish and heat in microwave for about 30 seconds.(See photo in my post). Then throw in indian head cents and let them bubble for about 5 minutes. I then brush with an old tooth brush and repeat maybe a couple of times. Give them a final brush with water and dish soap and then I rub them down with a soft cloth. It doesn't help much for the green crusty ones but if they come out of the ground in decent shape, it really gets them looking good. It will turn them a dark brown color, which is fine with me.

Great finds! Congrats!
I use hydrogen peroxide but never thought of heating it, I soak my finds somethings overnight depending on how they look.
Your method seems to work much better.
Thanks for sharing.
