Early morning hunt:

Larry and I went detecting before it got too hot outside and my first good hit was this old lead ship. It was 8" deep and had a good signal ringing out at me. I was getting quite upset and figured it was a piece of junk way down there. :ranting: Finally I felt something and pried it up with my digger and boy was I surprised. :wiggle: This is the second lead toy ship I've found. I then hit a couple of wheat cents and then the 1957-D dime. Life is good! I didn't last long in the humidity and had Larry bring me home. He went back to hunt and hopefully he'll come back with something good to report. Thanks for looking and HH to all, Nancy

Hi Wally. In the early to mid 20th century, lead was cheap, abundant and easy to mold. A lot of toys were made with it until it was found to be bad for you.

Lead!, I didn't know toys were ever made out of lead.. I find a bunch of match box cars and one SR-71 aircraft, but never anything made from lead..

In the early 1900's lead was plentiful and easy to mold. Plus it was cheap. Thanks and HH, Nancy
