Early Morning Hunt Yields a Few Keepers...Gold and Titanium. :)

Buddy Karl and I hit the 3:30 low tide from 1:30 until about 6 this morning. Tough beach...not many targets. We worked for what we got. We got lucky and found a SMALL concentration of coins and out of that I pulled two rings. Later on, after about 3 blocks of grid-walking up and down and NOTHING, there was the titanium band.

The yellow gold ring with the stones is 10K. I think it's supposed to be a diamond in the middle with two sapphires but the center stone tests negative. The heavy ornate band is 14K white gold and it fits my right ring finger so it's on there. The titanium band is my 3rd one I have found.

The beach was VERY dead last night...I mean nightlife-wise. Total 180 from last weekend. The crusing strip was even deserted. Hopefully today will be a decent beach day for swimming (and thus seeding) and we are planning to return tonight as of right now. But I think it's going to need a couple of weeks to pick up nicely. For those with the patience to go slow and try to cover every square inch, the are a few goodies to be found if you get lucky. Happy hunting.

Well, I was just talking to Karl while looking online at the weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow...doesn't look good. In fact, it looks pretty dismal. I think we'll be scrapping any further hunting this weekend. Just as well...despite my unusual good luck, the targets are very scarce down there again...this weekend is a bust tourist-wise compared to last weekend.

The weather report:

Today: Partly cloudy. Highs will be in the mid-upper 80s. Winds South 10-15mph.
Tonight: Increasing clouds and showers. An isolated thunderstorm is possible. Lows will be in the mid-upper 60s. Winds SE 10-15mph.
Sunday: Rain showers with a few thunderstorms. Rain may be heavy at times. Highs will be in the mid 70s. Winds NE 15-25mph.
The remnants of Barry will bring beneficial rain to Hampton Roads on Sunday. A flood watch is in effect for the Virginia Southside and Northeast North Carolina for tomorrow as rain will be heavy at times. With the current speed/track of the storm, tidal flooding should not be an issue.

Really nice assortment of rings you have there Mike,it just amazes me how lite the Titanium rings are, you know when you pull them out of the scoop what they are. I like the mascot also. HH

Did Karl get any loot Mike? Man, that lode is real nice. Never had titanium, but I don't think it will net you very much loot. I wonder if you could get a titanium bar though? Wonderous variety of precious metal bars, I like it! I need a platinum bar fer sure! Want one a those Mike? Without paying for it of course!

Well, I know it would APPEAR that way...things being "HOT" and all, but the fact is that there's damn little in the way of targets out there right now. But if you get lucky and find a "pocket" of targets...deeper clad and stuff that have been uncovered by tidal movement...and you get in between said clad and go slowly and methodically, you can pick out a few good targets. And I have been lucky in doing that. But I went 3 long blocks last night with ONE TARGET. That one target happened to be a ring. And then there were another couple blocks and there's a dime. And so on.

Come late June and early July though, look out. Things will be really heating up then.

Man, I'd be happy with my first platinum RING, let alone a bar! Haven't had one yet in 7 years of detecting. And my sister goes out and gets an Excal and one of the first things she finds is a platinum diamond ring. But I'm not complaining...I know I get my share. But I pretty much have ONE THING on my wish list this summer and it's a nice platinum ring. Fingers crossed...

Unfortunately, Karl got only clad. But he was pulling dimes up from a over a foot deep with that Quattro with the 12.5" coil on it as well as pulltabs, nickles, little snaps...if he runs OVER IT, he's FINDING IT! I predict he will be getting plenty this summer. :)

$2.82 & 7 pieces of junk--36 targets dug total
I hope your predictions are right....
Right now I'm hoping for a toe ring!!
I may have to visit Edgar Cayce's The Association for Research & Enlightenment to confirm it OR figure out which pinky to sacrafice to the surf gods.....

Man, you have become quite the Quattro Ninja over the winter and have been finding some great things. You skunked me a few times, pulling little buttons, Large Cents, and what not out of VERY clean farm fields. I have no doubt that if there were a gold ring within a foot and a half of your coil, you WILL find it. And being a "dig it all" guy that you are, digging pennies and everything else even when you know they're pennies, you're going to do great. The people that dig everything when they hunt get the best stuff.

Things are always a little slow this time of year but they're picking up. By the end of the 4th of July weekend I will predict that you will have a growing collection of gold rings and other cool finds. Let's check back with you in 1 month. :)

Heh...me too, Rob...me too! Just didn't want to make a promise I couldn't keep, just in case. Suffice to say, it's "off the chain".

Unlike winter hunting here...painful. That's why I disappear from the beach for about 7 months of the year, excepting for after a good winter storm, maybe.
