Early Morning Beach Hunt reminded my why I love this hobby

I got out early this morning and went to South Beach to do some detecting before work. I was using my MXT with the 6x10, gave the Spider 12 a break. I got there about 6:15 am and the beach was empty, not a soul in sight. The sun slowly came up and it was quite a sight. I watched the sun rise and two cruise ship's come in to port. The surf was pounding, so I did not get to go into the water's edge. It also did not help that high tide was at 6:26 am. As I walked close to the water's edge I noticed some movement in the sand, as I went toward the movement, I realized it was a live fish that must have been thrown up on the beach by the surf. The poor bugger was too far from the surf to have any hope of being swept back into the water. I quickly got it in my scoop and got it back to the water. My first good deed of the day. Up to this point I had found 25 to 30 screw caps and pull tabs, boy I wish they were worth money, it would have been a great day.

After the fish I found about 76 cents and a bathroom token. The only negative up to this point was that some dirt bag had decided to bury their Cath kit in the sand and I dug it up, thank God I did not puncture the bag. I guess the trash can, 40 feet away was too far for them to throw the kit out!

Around 8:15 am I found a small child's earing, tiny little bugger slipped through the scoop twice. It was around that time that a very attractive tourist, from England, came up to me and asked for my assistance. Apparently, she and her friends were at the beach yesterday and she lost a prized silver ring. I agreed to try and find it for her and the hunt was on. She and her friend got me to the general area they believed they were yesterday and I began a grid search. About 20 minutes later and half a dozen pull tabs later,I found her ring. It was next to a Crystal light wrapper, about 2 inches under the sand. She was so excited, she had the biggest smile on her face and was tearing up. She offered me a reward, but I told her the look on her face was reward enough. My second good deed of the day, all before 9:00 am.

I finished up my hunt around 8:55am and went to empty out my trash and was surprised to pull out about 80 pull tabs and screw tops. Unfortunately, I did not have anymore time to spend on the beach and I did not find any gold. It was a great short hunt and it set the tone for the rest of my day! :detecting:

Those of us who Love this wonderful hobby know that.:super: People drift in and out of metaldetecting in the pursuit of treasure. The real treasure is in the experiences you just shared with us all.

Thanks and Good hunting to You,

Gold is Good Too but not the Only Thing.

It's very nice to help someone out and find something like that!!! The good deed you did, also improves the image for treasure hunting in general!!! :clapping:

...that although there is replinishable loot there, the true treasure is not in the sand--not by a long shot.

That is a great story. I encourage you to post it on Royal's story forum. You'd get a great reception there too.
