EARLY GEORGIA

MORE- GUN SITE,BANGLES,GUN PARTS, WHEN WILLIAM BARTRAM VISITED THIS TOWN IN 1775-6 HE STATES THAT IT WAS ABANDONED. DESOTO VISITED IN 1540s ALSO FOUND HERE WAS A BLACK GLASS ARROWHEAD A FRIEND FOUND AND I DONT HAVE A PIC. ALL ROUND BALLS WERE 50 CAL. GUESS THEY DIDNT TRADE ANYTHING THAT COULD EQUAL THEIR 69-74 CAL.

I was wondering if that was a hawk's bell? DeSoto being in your area in 1540 (I think).... after he left La Florida, and prior to his meandering possibly into what is now South Carolina (Cofitachique) could easily have been the source of the bell. I know that other and later bells were traded, but have you had this one dated? Is Dr. Charles Hudson still with the U of G.? He could tell you for sure.

I have found Chevron Beads, and a .92 caliber Archibus miniball in northeast Arkansas that were dated to 16th Century Spanish. DeSoto was in Arkansas in 1541-42.

You have some nice finds, for sure!

Take care,

Kim
