Earbuds over Headphones?

Howdy to Everyone in Detecting Land,
It has been a while since I last posted but I can still say that my White's Spectrum XLT gets more use than my Explorer XS! I guess I am just intimidated by the "dang" thang'!
But this question is not regarding my overwhelming experience with the XS. It concerns what type of Summertime "headphone" or "earbud" that you all use when the weather gets so hot that your ear cups are full of sweat! Oh, Nasty! I have witnessed several persons wearing "earbuds" at competition hunts but haven't really gotten interested in it until the last few outings.
What brand do you all recommend? I would like to have a pair that has a long cord since I am 6 ft. 7 in. and the "little" Explorer XS Headphones stretch down to my belly button! I would prefer a pair of "earbuds" that have either a in-line adjustment for each ear or a combination control. I want to be able to wear a wide brimmed hat with the "earbuds" so I can keep the sun from making my "redneck" any reder'! No--wisecracks from you Northerners!
I would appreciate any and all responses that you all have to offer on the situation and I hope that I haven't stuck my "neck" out too far to have a few Southern bashing jokes sent my way? I have fun with my Southern heritage and I think that we are just one big ole' happy family when it comes to the realm of metal detecting. Thanks in advance for your help! Grizz'

because they just dont have the ability to keep out enough outside noise. If you must have something lighter try some of the midrange walkman head phones that just cover your ears the Sony MDR-V150 are what I use as a backup are light and I've never felt sweaty in them, they have a ear cup but not as big. They also don't have a volume control, but I think a little higher in that line they do maybe the MDR-V250 or V350 ect. Or you may prefer the ones with the foam ear covers, you can take the foam off and hand wash them, just get ones that cover the whole ear. Hope that gives you some ideas. And don't worry about the southern jokes I'm from an entirly diffrent country. Though even there we heard y'all are just one big family down there, literally. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D"> Just pulling your chain HH Miles

Griz, I can't stand to use regular headphones because of the heat here in Florida. I use the Sony MDR-Q33LP over the ear headphones. (get them on Ebay for less than $25) They just rest on your ear (not in them) and are super loud. I've turned down the volume on my Explorer because they are so loud they make my ears ring. I've tried the Jensen and Earhuggers over the ear brands but their better quality models hurt my ear canal because they have an ear canal plug and it is too large for my ear. I wouldn't be concerned with having a volume control on the earphones because most people turn the headphone volume all the way up and adjust volume with the detector control anyway. HH Wally

I've mentioned this in previous posts but on hot, sweaty summer days and when noise isolation is not a factor (ie on a beach) then I use Koss SportaPro's. They can be used with the headband either over the head or behind the head (so you should be able to wear most hats). I've added a short cable (1 to 1 1/2 feet long) with a volume control in it that I found at Radio Shack. This gives both a way of controlling volume and some extra length which is required. It is possible. from the sounds of it, that you may require a longer cable. This setup sounds good and is comfortable.
However if you are detecting on a beach you definitely need a good pair of isolating headphones (i.e. Gray Ghosts, Timberwolves, etc) because otherwise the background noise will make it impossible to detect properly.
Good luck ... I hope you find what you're looking for.
HH ... Gord.

Just a thought...Radio Shack sells an in-line volume control that you can use on virtually any headphone. I personally was unhappy with the separate volume controls on a pair of Koss headphones that I was using. One side or the other would always have the volume lower so...I turned the volume all the way up on each ear control, put a small piece of tape over the control, so I wouldn't accidentally turn them down. Plugged the headphones into the in-line volume control and used it to regulate the headphone volume. Like I said before...Just a thought.]
Also, I agree with the others...earbuds don't block enough of the ocean noise to allow you to hear the really deep targets!
