Will ear buds work with these? These huge ear phones are extreamly hot in our climate. Someone must come up with some other kind of ear phones that are not so hot.

I use ear buds for the same heat issues you are talking about. Ear buds or "Walkman" headphones are
also easier to wear when wearing a hat to keep from sunburns. They are also a lot less expensive!!!
Go to Radio Shack or another electronics store and you can buy an 'adapter' that will connect the
1/8inch male, headphone plugs to 1/4inch female, metal detector plugs.
