ear buds with volume control

In the summer months I have to wear a large brimmed hat and it's almost impossible to use my full headphones (Jolly Rogers). I'm wondering if some of you use ear buds to detect and if so which ones ? I need volume control and a cord that is manageable. Most of what they sell in stores has no volume and the cord is way too long. Thank you.

Try these ,,,you will not go back, best of both worlds.
Control some of the cord by clipping it to your shirt or to the detector body somewhere.

I use a pair of these, best in-ears made if you ask me. I have an older pair they don't make anymore and the MC5s as backup. http://www.etymotic.com/consumer/earphones.html I all so have one of the HF series for my phone.
For you volume control I use one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/281998634341?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true it has a clip on it so I stick it in the little pocket in my jeans, The ear bud cable goes inside my shirt to the volume control. The cable length works well between my pocket and MD.
Good luck

I use this with a 1/8" to 1/4 plug adapter

Thanks everyone. I think I'll buy the volume control and use my mp3 earbuds.

Bought them ! I wanted the volume control that others were suggesting but with shipping it is equal in price. Now if I could only have an XP DEUS to go with it !

Thanks for the suggestion.

Just thought I'd mention my impressions of the backphones that I got today. Build quality won't win any awards but i didn't expect top rate at this price. They fold to a very very small size that is almost as portable as a set of earbuds. They weigh nothing. The design is first rate. When worn they are comfortable and I hardly notice I have earphones on. Noise cancellation is virtually nonexistent because there is no seal around the ear. It's just a foam cushion around the speaker element and this cushion sits very lightly on the ear. You hear everything around which can be an advantage sometimes. Sound quality is surprisingly good for such a low investment. No matter the tone scheme I choose, differences in tonality between each one is loud and clear. The volume control on the cord is smooth and has infinite adjustment from off to very low to very high. I actually much prefer the volume adjustment on these than on my Jolly Rogers with their stepped volume adjustment. The cord plug is 1/8" with an included 1/4" adapter. The cord itself is very thin and too long so I had to tie the slack up in a bundle. I can easily wear a full brimmed hat with them on and that was exactly why I purchased them. Wearing them under a baseball cap on very hot days would be very comfortable as well.

I would not choose these headphones as my main pair but for their intended use they are fine. I just hope they will last awhile. I can't see them holding up to heavy duty use.

I have been using the same pair for nearly six months as my main set-up in quiet/windless locations. The durability will surprise you if you are just a little careful with the cord. I clip about an 16" section to my shirt with a clip like you would use with an ID badge and that helps. You could also wrap a little around the stand of your detector to protect the cord where it plugs in. Nice being able to talk to someone and hear your pinpointer while detecting which I have trouble doing when using the pro-golds.
