Eagle Token?

Found this today in a MA river. All I can make out is an old-looking eagle on one side of this pewter or lead disc. There is certainly writing around the eagle, but I can't give you any of the letters with certainty. Other side is virtually blank. Does not appear to be a button. Anyone have an idea? Thanks, Dan

Dan,
If you can get the 2005 red book for coins there is a picture of the same type eagle on the bottom of page 32.If that is the token it's dated around 1600.

Jim--
Thanks for the info. Yes, I had seen the New Yorke in America token--and almost fell off my chair! The eagle on my whatzit is very similar--though there are some differences. Glad you were able to get enough off of my poor photo to also see the similarity. Even if it's not the New Yorke, I'd be delighted if my token was from the 1600's also. We did find a William III Halfpenny nearby. Thanks again for the response. HH, Dan

Maybe try transformer electrolysis cleaning. http://www.fastcoin.com/Electrolysis.htm . Be sure to practice on coins you don't care about first. The transformer this site discusses is like the one you would recharge your cordless phone with or something comparable. I've had some luck with this method after a bit of practice.
