Eagle Spectrum-wow

Come across a White's Eagle Spectrum in absolute mint cond. Ol' boy bought it years ago used it a little then put it away for the last few decades lol Came with the Standard 9.5 coil, Blue Max 800 and a Blue Max 4x6 DD Shooter. Gave him $330 for the lot. I didn't know too much about these machines, but have read on the forums they were/are still great machines, so I figured what the heck and bought it. Too bad it doesn't use AA, but I guess this ol girl came out long before AA batteries lol so that being the case I headed on down to Sears and got the required amount of Die Hard Batteries this thing uses. I've been playing with it, figuring out the programs, settings etc..since it has no knobs on the box. I did come across a program on one of the forums for getting deep coins and figured I would put it in one of the two custom programs, if for anything just to go thru all the steps to get more familiar with the machine. Did all that and thought I would give her an air test. I realize this is only an "air test" and not real life out in the dirt etc, but I was amazed. What makes it more amazing is that I decided to get a new detector, just to go out with my two dogs and find some coins. So I got a Fisher F4 and a Garrett GTI 1500. Will decide which one I like using and sell the other. Anyhow air tested them and they pretty much did the standard 8-12" depending on the coin and size. When I air tested the Eagle, I was reaching out (with a quarter and Morgan Dollar) 24" + . At that distance I was still getting a audible noise. It was easily reaching out that far and still picking them up. Couldn't believe this old Whites metal detector in air test was easily reaching out twice the distance then both my new machines. I was using the standard 9.5 coil. Sure amazed me. I think I will keep her.
I contacted Whites and gave them the serial # and the machine was manufactured in Sept. 1989.

Hi,
The Eagle Spectrum is a good detector - one of the predecessors of the XLT
Just in case you need a manual:

Have fun with it.

Can you provide a link to the program you found for it? I just recently got an Eagle Spectrum from a friend and right now, only using the beach/jewelry program and "air-testing", im only getting 6-7" max

in the xlt forum should be some programs in the post dont know if this helps, http://www.findmall.com/search.php?31,search=programs,author=ohio+fred,page=1,match_type=ALL,match_dates=0,match_forum=41,match_threads=0

Thank you! These will definitely help!

@ Bobby S I like this program, it is for a XLT but you can improvise, Eagle has a few less settings. And then tweak it to your likes and detecting conditions.

Those are said to be very deep machines on silver and copper. Didn't catch it...Does it use C or D size cells? If so, you can get dummy C or D cells that fit AA cells into them and run it on those, saving a good deal of weight and money. Can't remember if that unit does use C or D size, but I know some of the older machines did. For cost savings, use *low self discharge* nimhs as they won't drain on the shelf after charging. Get 2600ma size cells or higher and you should get pretty good run times out of them I would expect.

Dug this up on a rechargeable pack for it...

"Both White's and Kellyco have what you need. You are looking for part number 802-5185 they are $34.95 from White's and part number 960-B8025185 for $34.95 from Kellyco.

Be sure you have the correct charger 509-0020-1 (be sure the get the -1 modle as it has dual charge/trickle charge option that will stop you from cooking the battery) cost is $14.95 from White's."

Be sure to confirm this stuff fits your particular model if you go that route.
