hiya guys,,,i was told some great things about this machine,,,its super deep apparently,,,,and was superceded,,(if thats how you spell it) by the XLT because of an off the shelf chip that became unavailable due to the mfgrs, going bust and it was too expensive to replace with a bespoke chip,???i would have thought that these days a replacement with the same characteristics would have been available,,but ???? is this true ,,or just some wonderfull folklore about a well loved detector??? let me know your views,,,:ukflag:

Not sure if I follow your detector model progression. The best person to ask about that is MONTE. Just search here in the forums and you will find his name.

What little that I know, which is most likely in error. The Whites Eagle PROgrammable was replaced by the Eagle II (SL 90). Iyt was the Eagle II that had an improved chip in it. Whites did offer an upgrade from the Eagle Pro ( I ) to the Eagle II by sending your detector in, and they would insert the chip and make your dm.etector the improve Eagle II.

I have the Whites Spectrum. It's next in line was the SPECTRUM XLT, but I don't know if there were a lot of changes, other than in cosmetics, like the decals.

Again, I know very little. Best to ask MONTE, or, this guy. http://forums.whiteselectronics.com/showthread.php?46378-XLT_%285%29-Fox-s-XLT-Programs

I used the Eagle SL90 as my primary unit for many years. But when you say the title Eagle "spectrum" SL90, I'm not sure if that's another machine, or different from the Eagle SL90 (without the word "spectrum"). The Eagle SL90 was followed by the Spectrum and XLT's, as the generations/evolution went. And no, the Eagle SL90 was not "extremely deep", (well, no deeper than the Spectrum and XLT's anyhow). Their depth, of all those machines, has now been surpassed by various other current brands and models, IMHO.

The Eagle SL90 had great sound characteristics, great target separation, great recovery speed (TID was instantaneous with the signal, as opposed to the ANNOYING delay of of the screen on the spectrum and xlt). I liked the Eagle for ground hunting, for things like relicky sites, demolition, etc... But it wasn't too good for the wet saltwater beaches, when compared to other Whites.

Comcat, It was called the Eagle II SL 90 it had a Black Box in 1990 , My first Detector was a 1988 Blue Box Eagle it was a fine Detector also,
I still have my Eagle II SL 90 , Its a XLT Just harder to operate that was its downfall people had a hard time useing it,
With my Big Foot Coil it can really clean up, Mickfin

So, IYHO, which machines seek deeper than the Eagles and the XLT? I did a side by side of an eagle spectrum with a Sovereign. I didn't try to determine which was ultimately deeper, but with a quarter at about 9" in a bucket of dirt, they both gave me a fairly strong tone, and roughly accurate response. I was using a custom program on the eagle. The factory installed Coin program did not pick it up at all. Btw, the Sovereign did not always react to the coin on the first pass for some reason, sometimes it took a second pass for it to start reading on it. I should also mention that the Spectrum needed to be swept slightly faster than my normal swing speed, which is probably on the slow end of the sweep speed spectrum. Consequently, if I am in an area that I think may have deep targets, I swing faster. If it also might have shallow targets, especially with trash about, then I may swing once fast and once slow.

As to TID "speed" of the Spectrum machines: this may possibly be affected by the values (On, Off, or #) used for one or more of the following adjustments:

V.D.I. Sensitivity: How sensitive the display is to the target detected, above 85 gives a three digit VDI number.
D.C. Phase: Gives a D.C. Phase VDI number for targets detected.
Graph Averaging: Averages the target VDI hits for the display.
Graph Accumulating: Accumulates target VDI bars on the display instead of clearing out before displaying next target.
Fade Rate: How fast the displayed target VDI bars fade from the display, 0 resets the display after each target.

If I were annoyed with TID response speed, I might try playing with these settings, just to see what happens.
