Eagle II SL, won't switch modes

Hi everyone. I bought an old Eagle II SL recently. When I got the machine it worked fine the first two times I used it. But then, the third time after I turned it on it went straight to the Ground Balance, and at no time with it let me see the Mode Menu. I tried the old "turn it on and remove the batteries" trick but it had no effect. I think it is stuck in Coin Mode. Any ideas? Thanks.

Make sure your coil wire is connected correctly. The same thing happened to me once and all that was wrong was that I didn't have the connection tight. Hope that works for ya.

I checked it out with three different coils. Tow of the plugs seemed to not so tight, the last one was nice and snug, but the problem persists. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Can you explain a little bit more in detail? My Eagle II sl goes to air balance first turned on. You push the Mode button to select the type of hunting ( A,B,C ) You will see it by the AIR balance icon on the screen. Then push the air balance button then lower the coil to the ground then push ground balance button before the menu shows up on the screen. After that you can change sounds, edit, etc. This is how it has always been since I bought it new in 1989.

Gee I hope you don't have the trigger switch pushed forward and locked..Another thing is to check the signal balance(knob on the front of the unit) if its set too high can cause this problem. Just put it in off position and your problem may be solved. This knob is easily moved and may be set too high which will affect your unit in weird ways..
