Eagle II Acting up or wrong coil

Hello,
I have a White's Eagle II with the blue box. The unit powers up and appears to function, but after a couple of minutes it begins sounding off as if there are targets everywhere. It will settle down occasionally and detect properly, but then I can set the detector down to dig and it will beep erratically when it is on the ground. I bought the unit a couple years ago, and it has a White's ULC 950 coil. Could this be the issue? I am new to detecting, so I read up on this coil and it is not the one that belongs on the Eagle, but I don't know if it is compatible or not. Or should I send it to White's to let the have a look at it?

May need to send it for an assesment to Whites.
Ask them if its worth fixing.

You're right, that is not the correct coil. You should have an 8 inch 6B or any of the 6B coils.
You've got a couple ways to go. First, I'd say it's worth repair by White's in any event. They are very reasonable and will fix it up good as new.
Or, you could purchase a 6B coil in a size other than 8 inch. If the problem goes away then you know it's the coil and you are free to buy an 8 inch or even 10 inch 6B coil and have a big for parks, etc. and a small for trashy areas.
If putting a small coil on doesn't fix it, then I'd send it in to White's, let them fix it and install a new coil while they're at it.
Ultimately, you end up with a great detector with a couple coils well suited for different conditions.

Took it out again today and really paid attention. It appears that after setting the ground balance it will work as expected until it gets its first hit. Then it just keeps beeping and giving all types of VDI numbers, even when it is lifted 2 feet off the ground. I believe I will send it to White's in the end. Are the 6B coils another term for the 6.59 kHz type recommended for these units?

The 6B coils are called that because that is the number stamped into one of the mounting ears. They are usually white in color with blue stickers.
A Google image search for 6B coil will turn up lots of pictures of 10", 8", and 4" 6b type coils.
Oddly enough, my Blue Max 350 sniper coil says "5B" on the ear, but works just fine on my XL Pro.
