e trac vs safari

hello I am new to the forum, I have been using my fathers safari and made so great finds, last week i bought an e trac and am totally lost the sounds are not the same, just noticed the post on TTF HOW TO SET IT UP AND US PROPERLY , the safari was real easy to learn and find targets will it be the same for the e trac? thanks

Look at the 1st reall outing post that is going now. This will give some good advice on how to use your ETrac.

Happy hunting and you won't regret getting an ETrac. My biggest hunting buddy can't wait to trade up from his Safari to an ETrac.

the safari is no slouch but you have to remember it is minelabs bottom line FBS machine......the etrac is a powerhouse compared to the safari, you made a good choice when you upgraded!

Get Andy's Explorer and E-Trac book. The silver warble sound on the Safari can be made to sound close by adjusting the variability and pitch on the E-Trac other than the silver tone the others are about the same. I still have my E-Trac but if you relic hunt (CW relics) I think the Safari does better on bullets and buttons. All the way around the E-Trac will serve you well. You are for sure at the right place if you have any problems. Good luck. HH :minelab:

Safari is very good but many junk metal like pull tabs, etc until I got E-Trac. I love my E-Trac then sold Safari. Both are good machines but E-Trac is more accurate on whats below the ground.

The Minelab Safari uses the same FBS algorithms with the same coils and battery as the E-Trac. The difference is in the inferior TID, which doesn't allow the same customization of discrimination areas as the E-Trac, and thus is similar to other VLF notch detectors with their poor linear target display.

But make no mistake the Safari is every bit as powerful as the E-Trac. The Safari in mild soil is only a bit less deep tjhan the more expensive CTX3030. In highly mineralized soil the Safari is about the same in depth to the CTX, if not a bit deeper!

But depth is not the only game - knowing what the target is and being alerted through a custom audio and visual profile is where the E-Trac shines, and even more so the CTX3030.

It might be good to do a factory reset too so you arent using programs and/or sounds that you might not want.

Here is how to do a etrac factory reset(its in your manual too)

Turn your etrac on
Press menu button
Scroll across the top of the menu until you get to "preferences"
Scroll down to master reset
Press directional button to perform master reset

You are now good to go just like it came from the factory. All should be good

The Etrac does not go any deeper than a Safari, does not hunt any better in trash than a Safari,Some of the extras and extra manual settings are useful like the back light and and auto +3.Bottom line it will not find any more or any less than a Safari. But if you are one of those people that have to have every option on a new vehicle you should buy the Etrac you will not feel good hunting until you do.You may also find an Etrac cheap because many more were made.I went to an estate sale to bid on some guns that I knew a guy had that passed away In the sale were several detectors, I never knew this guy detected.I picked up a very nice Etrac and 5 other detectors at under 400 dollars.A lot of people at the auction kept asking at the auction what were those things I bought were.I paid out the Yingyag for the guns though.I had over 100 hours on a CTX3030 and personally I would choose the Etrac any day. I am sure that I just did not get use to it I borrowed it from a friend and he has moved on to another brand of detector.

I feel with the safari i found more stuff than my e trac. was out this past weekend hunting my upstate house dates back to late 1800's only found a shell casing and some pennies 60's 70's, should i hunt in coin mode till i learn this machine? how fast do you sweep safari i was sweeping about 2 seconds till i got a hit, thanks for the help Dennis
