If you have Andy's book there is information on pinpointing tips. I have used a GTI 2500 for years and still do with great success pinpointing and thought I might have trouble with the E-trac because of coming from a concentric coil to a DD however I have not had any problem.
I have noticed that if a coin is on edge it seems I will be off to the left or right of it and not centered. The DD coil picks up the target in the middle strip where the coil overlaps, if you move side to side slowly until the signal disappears and then back to signal you know the target is under the overlap part of the coil. Then if you move your coil forward or back until the signal stops your target will be in the edge of the half circle notch either front or rear of the coil. Try this on targets on the bare ground and see if that helps.

Thunter stay with the e-t, Pinpointing will come! My finds have pick up so much since switching to minelab! Doug N.C.

You can go to www.sabischbooks.com, or E-bay and a lot of dealers will have the book in stock. Mine came with my purchase.

have to agree with bcoop, when i locate a good target i turn to see if i keep getting a good signal. then i'll sweep side to side over the target (small sweeps) as i back off. when the target goes away i'll dig at the top of the coil. in trashy spots you may have to come in on a different angle but it works for me so far and it's fast.

I do the 90 degree thing.

I first find the target and then move 90 degrees and pinpoint again. I find that it gives me a better point to dig. It also gives me a good idea of if the target is worth digging. If the numbers jump around, then I know it probably is not a good target. I also do the wiggle which I use the point of detection to figure the best possible place to dig using the edge of the coil.

I have also found an excellent digger. It is a small Craftsman shovel available at Sears. Lifetime guarantee and it is very light. It digs down about a foot and brings out a nice clean plug really fast. I can dig a plug, pull it and retrieve the target in less than two minutes. And I bet that after I am done, you could not tell where I dug.

All that for about 10 bucks. Can't beat it.
