e-trac or safari in light rain?

anyone use the e-trac in light rain with the covers on? just wondering how water resistant they really are ,and also if they would leek anywhere along the battery housing, thank, tony

I hunt in the light rain when i have too..what i have done to make my detector more water tight is wrap the whole battery compartment all the way to the Display screen(Even the sponge handle)with plastic bags..Then with it wraped one or 2 layers thick(1 will do) i use duct tape or gorrilla tape(black) and wrap a layer over all the plastic bags ..This way everything stays dry(dont submerg) and is still brand New underneath. The tape sticks to the plastic and not to the detector..so when u rip it off whenever ,The detector and the foam grip look like brand New.I have done this to my Se..and i did it to my E-trac the minute i got it.It adds little to No weight.and it actually protects the whole unit.I fell alot better draging it thru brush and rough stuff.I always keep the screen cover on and have zagg on the screen. When im ready to upgrade detectors ,this will look New still.Good luck ,HH

I'm out in the rain all the time and one of the first things I noticed was that there was fogging on the inside of the control box cover....so water was getting in...not good.
I hit the cover with waterproofing spray I got from the camping store, now water just beads and rolls off and no moisture gets through.
Cheers

Used my Etrac at the Blue & Gray Hunt in Virginia last march. It rained solid all three days. I did not have my rain cover on at all and this detector never slowed down. This machine was soaking wet and it kept running and finding the relics & coins. That is where I found the 1862 $1.00 Gold Piece. That Etrac is one tough machine. Today, it works just fine. HH...Jesse.
