E-Trac in conductive with ironmask wide open?

Ray-Mo.

Active member
I was testing my E-Trac in conductive wide open iron mask with multi tones and it came to my attention that old rusty cut nails of iron sounded like they were one notch higher tone than silver.I would like for others with a better tuned ear to try this and let us know if I am just imagining this or if it is true,Thanks Ray.

Hello Ray, I was doing a little testing myself last week with the screen wide open testing the difference between the iron and silver pitch, and I noticed the same result. Thanks Ray for your observation. EddieB

Ray-MO,

As separate targets, you're right ,there is an audible difference(I can hear the differing pitch) at varying depths(in an air test)

Put the targets close or the ferrous one on top and you still hear the difference by way of a mixed sound.I note the bouncing courser and the digital value changes.
This seems to be the case with any raw rusty or new iron that's about the size of two nails, whole or cut . Also tried it with a ferrous ring and a ferrous coin.
There is also very good separation factor if the nails and silver coin are basically on the same level plane. If you put the iron target/ and inch or two above the silver coin it still gives what seems a two tone mixed signal.

Maybe now, taking note of this audio difference would serve it's purpose in a tight discrimination pattern rather than an open iron mask.
It might also help one in deciding and avoid digging some of those deep single tone/pitch targets that seem like silver but sometime turn out to be rusty iron nails or the like.

I'm taking note of this when I get out to the beach or an inland site sometime this week.

Do you think it would it be an advantage over using 4 tone Ferrous when it comes to an open screen setup when there are nails or any other ferrous targets around?
