E-Trac hates wet grass and leaves.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me. I took it out in the woods to hunt the site of an old one room schoolhouse and the machine was falsing to beat the band and the auto sens. would jump back and forth from 12 to 21 and everything between.
I have not had this problem before or since. I have dug alot of silvers and wheats at parks and fairgrounds. I have gotten to where I can tell by the sound whether its a old wheat, new wheat, silver dime, clad dime or silver quarter or clad quarter.
The silver just has an unmistakeable warble in the tone that no clad has. I have not had the sensitivity or falsing issue at any other site.

I also noticed the meter can be funky in wet conditions........Always go with the sound no mater what the meter is telling you ....
You will work thru it if you just do not panic.......JUST LIKE A WOMAN....

the rest of it can look like a dirt ball .......but the coil cover and underneath clean after every hunt....stuff can build up fast underneath...

Jim, I take the coil cover off and clean it about every other hunt. I love the E-trac and have been very successful with it in areas that had quit producing with my other machines. I have dug over 100 silver dimes and quarters and several pocketfuls of wheats in the last 3 months I've owned the E-trac, in the same areas I had been over no less than 50 times with the other 20 machines I own. I've never had the E-trac act like it did in the wet leaves and grass that day.

The older wheats will have a very rounded tone and sound much better than a zinc or aluminum screw cap in the ground. They usually I.D. 12-39 or 12-40. The newer wheats and copper memorials sound alot higher pitched to me, I usually use the depth gauge to pick between the two and they I.D. higher in the ground than out ( 12-42 12-44) but no warble sound like silver.

sometimes you have to give em a swift PAT on the rear..........what has worked for me in the field is a lot of noise cancels religiously and Reboot ........the reboot is the last resort but it has cleared the registers and cured the qwerks 3 separate times in a lot of hostel environments.....

Jim, I have not tried a re-boot in a while that might be just what she needs. LOL
Funny thing is when I first got married I couldn't keep my hands off her. Guess a woman and the E-trac do have alot of things in common. LOL

I used my Etrac in a wet condition ther other day and I did not have the same effect. I have not found any silver yet but I if the sound is a bit more prominent than a clad quarter I will not be mistaking silver anytime soon.

Dennis,

To perform a Factory Preset, turn off the unit, then turn it on while holding the powering button down for a few seconds. All saved patterns and modes will still be saved.

To perform a Master Reset, make sure you back up all your settings and patterns first, and then Go into the Expert menu, and scroll all the way to the bottom to Master Reset, press the right arrow and answer it's question YES you want to reset all. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING so make sure you BACK UP FIRST.

I would clean the coil and cover and then seal the cover to the coil with aquarium sealant. I do this on all of my coils because I do a lot of beach hunting and do not have any problems. Occasionally, you do have to take old sealant off and clean and reseal, but it works.

I have tried other detectors at this site since and it drives them all nuts after a rain. Except for the old Compass GSP nothing shakes it up. Must be some kind of wierd mineralization at the sight that becomes very pronounced when wet.

Maybe its due to or relate to, static build-up on the detector and/or operator?

Then when you brush over wet grass etc., it allows your body/unit to discharge to earth?

Perhaps Minelab have examined the problem and could comment....(It's not a new one, or solely E-Trac related).

I wonder if what we are wearing in synthetic clothing material terms, is also involved?

John, I will try and investigate the effect if I can simulate the problem at home.............TheMarshall

If mine's a girl, then I will be extra-extra caring with it, for as we all know 'Love is a many splendid thing', and kindness brings its own rewards.

Usually I clean 'Her' with the garden hose. Now perhaps I will use warm soapy water with a dash of scented bath oils!

That's one of my New Year Resolutions......"Love your E-Trac".
