E-trac has a wobble....does yours?

Since the first time I put my E-trac together it has had a wobble.

Where you joint the main rod/stem into the upper stem just behind the control box is where the wobble is at. It goes all the way in and the clamp shut, but it still wobbles slightly in the up/down direction (as looking at the screen). I don't have my e-trac on me at the moment, but I'd say the wobble is enough for the coil end to move approx 5mm to 10mm.

Is this normal for you guys, or should I get it checked out?

There doesn't seem to be any adjustment to make the clamp grip tighter on the lower stem!!

I can see over a period of time this wobble getting worse due to wear.

No wobble on mine at all. Any chance you haved the middle rod in upside down(clamp facing up instead of down)?
No wobble on my SE either.

i have found the problem, the cam lock which is located on the middle section should be facing down(on the under side)as the upper section which goes into the control box is tappered..if this is inserted in the wrong manner , it can restrict the insertion lenght causing it to wobble..regards wizard

This subject is also running live on MLO.

I found this a problem with my various Explorers but not so with the E-Trac.

The upper shaft needs to be pushed firmly home otherwise over time this problem can occur.

Its easily solved by replacing the small metal plated red plastic pad inside the camlock.

Tap the splined pin out and note the correct way to replace the new pad.

My friendly dealer used to give them to us in the past.:cheers:Jerry.

No problem with the e-trac.....just the moron that put it together!!

I put the stem in upside down. Now it's in correctly it clamps down perfect.

Thanks guys

very interesting.
I had the same problem but I don't know which side I had the cam lock on... I now have the spare shaft that the X1 probe came mounted on and have not had a chance to give it a try.
I guess this will call for some living room machine wiggling...
Mine was bad enough that it came out of place completely a couple of times.
My guess is that I had it installed upside down... par for the course...
