E Trac Ground Balance

When I dig a find and lay my E Trac down, will I need to rebalance it before continuing to hunt?

Sorry...what I meant to say was....it monitors the ground conditions with a continuous reference signal that is calibrated to a sample of ferrite. That way it has something to compare the ground condition TO. Long story short, the machine does all that. The NOISE CANCEL shifts the frequency a bit to eliminate EMI,such as around power poles, utilities, etc. Noise cancel should be performed when you first get to a site, and also if you notice the machine is getting chirpy or unstable in the course of your hunting.

I very seldom do a noise cancel unless I get into some EMI that makes the unit cause eratic sounds. I also set mine manually to 2- 4 or 6 and leave it along. That is the beauty of the E-trac is you can have many options to explore for what works best in your neck of the woods for you. Don't be affraid to play around with it as you can allways do a master reset to bring all back to original factory settings, however you will loose your other saved settings if you did not transfer them to a computer for safe keeping. Happy hunting !

the best thing to do after you lay your machine down to dig. After target retrieval take 2 or 3 steps back, put your coil on the ground and proceed hunting. Those 2 or 3 steps, after those your Gb'd should be on the money.

??? Why is this different than just getting up and start hunting again? Am I missing something?

Well I'll you why, the Gb balance isn't instantaneous per se, but is fast. And besides it's very easy to actually miss a find. Pay attention next after you find and dig a target--- you may be surprised at the area you actually never run your coil over.

So actually there are two good reasons to step back before proceeding.

I get it. When gridding and making sure an area is covered thoroughly yes I see the usefulness in this. Might explain why I can go back to places and still find stuff...

I've been guilty as I'm sure others have . We get tunnel vision when we find a supposed good target. I mean consider when you hit a good target in half your swing. One will stop kneel and dig, raise up and may miss an area as they restart their hunt.

I have to check the Balance on my V3i after every dig. This will be a big change.
