Brooklyn55,

To answer you question I am currently using Minelab's preset modes(Beach) at this time. Since this is what is mostly I do. If I sneak into a park or a playground I use coins for right now. I am new to E-trac and I am in the learning phase and have to be very patient. I read constantly both Andy's book, the manual and various website. I like to read about it and then go out and practice it and then read some more.

Give your preset modes a try. I found so far I have had to make various adjustments to some settings due to the ground conditions. Some parts of the island the settings are ok and some are not. I am starting to think it might be due to the volcanic flow many years ago. But this is all about learning what works where, when and for me.

Here in the UK where we have so much history the experienced users dont use full on patterns because of the risk of losing items of treasure and rare gold & silver coins. We hunt farmland because thats where the old roman and medieval sites were. we rarely hunt parks and yards because we dont need to.
Exchange seemed a good idea when the E Trac came out to swap patterns and programmes but once you stop and think what you might discrim out in the wrong place at the wrong time then you tend to go with your own set ups and have the screen as open as possible. Reading the posts from the states it also comes across that the guys who are experienced and really switched on tend to do the same.
I havent changed my set up from day one when I changed over from the SE to the E Trac. Two bars of discrim on the bottom of the quick mask screen 35-33 fe Two bars on the left 1-2 co to knock out just a bit of the foil that our fields are full of and a tiny reject nails pattern in the bottom right hand corner.
Coupled to this Im using conduct sounds, multi tones, max variability on tones, maximum manual sensitivity where possible otherwise Auto sens +3, threshold pitch on minimum 1 to shift the range down to get lovely deep low tones on our silver hammered medieval coins. I prefer Pitch hold response but use smooth sometimes for a change. I listen to the tones for a good signal and rarely look at the screen because I dont find the need to. We tend to dig everything here that sounds good because we never know whats going to surface.

(1) There (over the pond) In Blocking 1&2 in FE.............are there many good good targets you miss .............Besides the rare.........gold ear ring,,,,or occasional gold item...........?
AND...(2).......................................How much digging time would you estimate ,that blocking the 1 & 2 FE saves you ?...........................................................................................
...............Thanks.................Your Yankee Cousin,,,,,,,,DAVE

Its 1-2 CO Im blocking not FE. I did it because some of the farm fields I detect are full of very fine foil like chocolate wrappers and the like. Public footpaths nearby where people walk and throw their rubbish and also next to major roads where litterbugs constantly throw stuff out their car windows.

Im confidant Im not missing much in the way of good targets that low down the CO scale. Im still finding small cut half silver medieval hammered coins that start to show around CO 4+. I will probably take those two bars of CO and give it a go wide open now Im confident with the E Trac. but I will definately keep the two bars and the nails screen on the bottom, theres no way Im taking them off or adding to them.

This programme is the dogs danglies over here and its worth you guys trying it.

You can save it for when you are in the mood to try it.

My E-trac has already paid for itself and a garrett probe in just a few months with this programme.

This is a Merchants Silver Thumb Seal Ring. Possibly belonging to William Spencer. 1422-1495. All thanks to Mr Minelab and my good friend Tony Hunts programme.Jerry.

Just put MLO on a search engine and you will see them under E-Trac including Tony`s which is a winner.

We have a number of our cousins from the USA on board just as some of us have the pleasure of
joining you guys here..

Best of Luck.Jerry.

I've found after experimenting quite a bit with the etrac on different targets that some gold link chains do fall in the 2 CO area. It's a scrappy signal, but it's there. Now, this may be a very limited amount of thinner chains, but I have 2 that fall there, and so did another someone dropped for me to test. Of course, if you're not interested in looking for gold chains, this setting doesn't really matter much. :lmfao:

...............:super:..........Congradulations to You Buddy..........:buds:....:beers:........................
Finding any ring is great excitement.......Finding a silver is great................Finding a Gold one even better......But finding one that old,and being one used to create a historic seal yet,is the best possible kind of find.......................................It actually looks Golden in the pictures....................
You still have seal impressions to remember it by right ?............................H.H.

Thanks HH,

I believe it may be purchased (I hope)and brought back to the city of Bristol in the next couple of years.

The City where the "Mathew" with John Cabot as captain and explorer set off to find the new world.

William Spencer helped to fund some of Cabots ealier trips to what turned out to be a non existant mid atlantic Isle of Brasile and other more successful trading partners.

Yes I have a keepsake file including a copy of the impression.Jerry.

That was an amazing find of yours Jerry it really was, and thanks for supporting me re the programme. It seems to be working for a lot of guys in the UK on our type of detecting. I know its not full on and maxed out like some like to use their E Tracs & Explorers in the UK.
It suits the likes of us ( Older farts possibly) Its as deep and as stable a set up as our favourite Minelab machines are capable of and without all the horrible background noises to decipher.
Just look at some of your finds lately since you got the E Trac. I know my finds rate has definately improved, well youve seen the pictures on MLO to prove it, amazing detector coupled with the even more amazing Pro coil. I'm so taken with the Pro coil and its weight (or lack of it) and its performance I sold my hardly used 15x12 SEF this afternoon and know I wont regret it one little bit. Overweight, overpriced and overhyped thats my take on it.

Yes I think there is a danger of missing maybe the finest gold chain if I detected on the beaches. I think where I detect on the farm fields Im hardly likely to find very fine gold necklaces, theyre more a beach thing although you never know. I will probably take off the two bars of CO mask and just dig a few more holes. I really dont think Ive missed much but you never know. I have still been digging the very fine and small silver hammered coins that come in from about CO 4 +
