I have the E-Trac great machine .... I think ? I have tried the air test and it seems that the depth in the air test is not what I was expecting. Now I have had the machine out of the box for 45 minutes. Scanned the directions, went to the sensitivity section turned to manual, raised to max what am I missing. I just want to get the max depth because I am going out in the morning and I can't learn this with trial and error. I have had an Explorer XS for years (non Better) I ran max 32 at all times. I know the issues with the falsing signals and I have no problems with them .. I want to get to the max depth ASAP and I will figure the rest out as I wait for anyones advice on how to max out on the sensitivity on the E-trac.. I don't mined false signals I can handle them .. All my hunting finds at this locations are 8 inches and deeper. All coins are dated before 1830 with over 50 coins found so far including many very valuable coins including many coins in the 1700's. This is the reason I can use a quick lesson on depth .. Thanks Jim

If already own a minelab, then you should be aware that they don't "air test" well. Don't worry, the depth is there when they are over dirt.

If you can run it at max sensitivity and your ground is fairly neutral should be able to get 12" or deeper especially if some of the coins are large cents or other older large silver coins. On the beach in the dry sad running at a Sensitivity of 29 I was digging coins in the 12-14" range. Good Luck. Hopefully you will show us some pix of the old coins you find with the E-Trac. I always enjoy seeing the really old coins and I am pretty sure I am not the only one here who likes seeing the really old coins!

I was out today for couple of hours. I guess I am somewhat pleased with the unit but it will take a few more out tings to get the hang of this. I found 4 buttons. Not bad for this are but I had a few problems. The biggest issue was that I could not get the hot rocks from reading/. I need to get this issue taken care of ,.. Any Ideas.. Thanks
It doesnt open because all links to our website & forum from these findmall forums have been unfairly scrambled. I wouldnt think Minelab are too happy about that seeing as they have chosen the Minelabowners website as the place to officialy launch all their latest machines worldwide. All their official Videos and DVD's are made by the MLO TV team also. 
Often times when a link get scrambled is because the site you are trying to see, has Hot Linking disabled
Bandwidth cost money. Every time a link is followed from a forum, it uses the bandwidth of the host site.
Most Webmaster recommend or sometimes just disable Hot Linking as a measure to control costs.
Or it could be some other reason...

I have an E-trac, and for the first Month out with it, I was annoyed that my old SE seemed to have greater depth (a lot). with the e-trac I did not find anything deeper than 4 inches??
Then something happened. 3 weeks ago my E-trac died! It just did not turn on one day, it was completely DEAD
I sent it in for repair, got it back after 10 days. After the repair the detector can detect a normal sized wedding ring, with a constant/clear signal 35cm/13,8 inches away in an air test!!! This was indoors, in all metal mode and sensibility only at 24!! This would NOT have been possible before the repair.
In Ireland where it was repaired they changed all the prints boards and chips inside the control box. I was not told exactly what was wrong, but now it performs better than ever.
