E-Trac coils ???

St Bernard

New member
Looking in the future at a new E-Trac. I see it comes with an 11" DD coil. What other coil would be recommended for it especially high trash areas by brand? Thanks

You could get a 6x8 SEF.....but if I was you ...would get a 13" ultimate( just slow down in trash) Killer coil...would be on it 90% of the time !!!

There are a bunch of five-six inch sniper coils by various makers. I have the Coiltek one and like it, but honestly I suspect they all perform about the same.

Right now I am really, really digging the eight inch Sun Ray X-8 that Dan(NM) sold me. I think he must have been drunk when he sold it - if he had been in his right mind he would have never got rid of it. :buds:

Forget the 6 x 8 , it's old school --works , but not like a 5 x10 which are just as deep and separate better. I recently came across a Detech 5 x 10 WSS and have been comparing it to the NEL sharpshooter ,,very little difference. Both are very rewarding to swing but in intense trash , the Excellerator 4.5 x 7 elliptical is the one to have.

The NEL sharpshooter and NEL tornado would round out the collection of coils for any area.

I've always thought the stock pro coil is just as good as the ultimate or tornado, had all three for explorer se pro.Smaller coils,6x8 was good but I had nothing else to compare it to.

I did find my Last 1917 with the Stock 11 Coil

Over Joyed with the Coiltek 5X10. It is my main Coil now. Just about as deep as the stock coil but seems to ID much better.

I just purchased the Ultimate coil for my E-trac, Unfortunately they are on back order from Kellyco so my review will have to wait.

I recently bought a Coiltek 12X8 and so far very happy with it. These Coiltek just seem to ID better than the stock coil. Not sure how deep it is but I found a small Copper Rivet yesterday at a full 8" in the ground. The Coiltek 12X8 is heavier than stock but the Pinpoint and ID makes up for it. I just do not like Round Coils.

All of these coils have great reputations for hunting in heavy iron and in tight spots.
I prefer the closed type coils over the open spoke design - less hang ups on brush and stubble - a huge plus !
(Not in any set order)

(1) SunRay - X-5 coil - (closed)
(2) Detech -EQ 2 - 6" Excelerator coil - (closed)
(3) Detech - 4.5" x 7" Excelerator coil - (closed)
(4) Detech - 6" x 8" Excelerator coil - (open spoke)

Good Luck !

Has anyone used the nel snake? Wondering what to expect,I ordered one for very trashy places that the x8 even struggles.
