E-Trac classroom

I was wondering if they are going to start an E-Trac classroom, because of the difference between the Explorer and E-Trac, or we just going to leave classroom stuff on this E-Trac forum.

That's true

I have setup my E-Trac so it sounds just like the Explorer. As far as I can see, the machines work very similarly and there's not a whole lot of difference. Used Explorers are a super bargain right now, and I'm not sure that the E-Trac will significantly outhunt an Explorer with a Pro coil. I think there are some improvements that make the E-Trac a little faster and more accurate. I think most of the tips and advice you would use for the Explorer will go for the E-Trac as well. There are some differences, but I can switch from my Explorer to my E-Trac without a thought. Sometimes while swinging the E-Trac I look down at the screen and don't see the Smartfind screen I am expecting. Even Andy Sabisch covered both machines in one book. If anything, I think the Explorer classroom should be the Explorer and E-Trac classroom. What you will see in a E-Trac classroom is a lot of rehashing of the material covered in the existing Explorer forums.

I am kinda curious what you think the differences are between the Explorer and E-Trac that it needs it's own classroom forum. Maybe I am missing something.

I think that because the E-trac has a different screen set up...the "12" readings for the E-trac as compared to the S curve the Explorer has, the faster chip, the more stable operation in more situations, the differences in the Explorer to the E-trac in many of the adjustments for audio, more adjustable features in many other areas that some folks feel a seperate classroom is needed. There are quite a few differences and even Minelab says that the E-trac is not an Explorer.

I owned an Explorer SE and sold it when I got the E-trac. The E-trac showed me that it was better in more areas that I hunt and so the Explorer is now history for me. Minelab must feel there is enough demand for the older Explorer design to keep it in their lineup. I know a lot of Explorer owners who switched to the E-trac but I also know a few Explorer owners who tried the E-trac and decided to keep their Explorers.

I feel that E-trac has enough differences to warrant a separate forum, but not enough a difference to have a classroom. WIth that I agree with you.

And what is the difference? I can get almost any question answered right here in this forum.

Not everyone who owns an E-trac upgraded through the explorer. I found the Explorer parts to Andy's book confusing as I have never held or seen an explorer. This very same reason keeps me away from an Explorer classroom as converting information is very confusing to me. I have an E-trac and don't see any value in learning Explorer settings and techniques and how to convert these. I got quite a bit of good information out of Andy's book but feel I could have learned so much more if it was a separate book on just the E-trac. It seems to be about 70% explorer and at best 30% E-trac based knowledge.

Just my 2 cents from a newbie to the hobby,

Dave

After reading Andy's book about the differences in the machines, the really different electronics and expansion of the FE, etc., etc, you really think it's just an Explorer III? I think Andy makes a pretty good case about why it is not an Explorer III and even says so. For those who have owned the Explorer line and didn't like it, like me, or those who own a Explorer and don't see any advantage to change to an E-trac based on your conclusions is misleading in my estimation. I'm sticking with Andy's knowledge and opinion on this one. Wonder why he made such a distinction between the Explorers and the E-Trac both in the title of his book and in the chapters contained within? Regards...Jim

Very good point.I have been using the E-Trac a lot since they first came out and decided to get my dusty Explorer se with pro coil a workout last week.It seemed like a dinasour compared to the E-Trac and after a few minutes I had to switch back to the E-Trac.I liked the Explorers a lot but would not trade my E-Trac for any 2 other top of the line machines if I had to do without a E-Trac,Ray.

Does that mean the Spectra/V3 would be off in the corner somewhere:rofl:

Seriously though, how would you compare the Vision to the E-Trac rating them both on a scale of 1 to 10 10 being awesome and 1 being, well you know.
