E-Trac and Excalibur II

BOIdaho

New member
I know this forum is about Minelab E-Trac metal detector, but I was so impressed with the E-Trac that I went and got an Excalibur II to compliment my E-Trac. The E-Trac coils are water proof but if you get the control unit wet you have a very expensive nonfunctioning detector. Most of you know that the Excalibur uses the same technology as the E-Trac. I took the Excal out today for its maiden voyage, went down to the Boise river. I already have waders from fly fishing so that setup works quite well, I never went more than knee deep. Idaho has a lot of lakes and rivers and most of our rivers are favorite rafting destinations. I found a few coins right away, it is strange not having a display to use to tell what you might have. I found 6 quarters and they sound about the same on either machine. Dimes are pretty close too. After one day of swinging the Excal and I can tell you that you won

Just curious though why don't you post on Excalibur forum so you can share with those who have an Excalibur? Doesn't make any difference I guess.

You say that "Most of you know that the Excalibur uses the same technology as the E-Trac".

That's not correct.

I use the X-Cal II and the ET also. And for the same reason as Idaho. I do post on both forums as I think posting my gold rings found with the X-Cal here on the ET forum would be "cheating". They are both FBS detectors but of courses there are many differences in the programs and electronics. Still Idaho, I look forward to reading about your finds. Just as a sidebar, I hunt salt water beaches in Calif., San Diego mostly, and find the X-Cal will pull a quarter from about the same depth as my ET in sand. Both are awesome machines and each have their place in the kind of detecting I do. Good Luck and Happy Hunting, Terry.

I found your post very enlightening actually. I am interested in an Etrac but havent made up my mind. I do have an Excal II though, and I love it. I hunt the beaches mainly but I think I am going to try and branch out and try some coin shooting. Any time you have questions about your Excalibur just ask and maybe you will let me bounce a few Etrac questions off of you.

FYI - The E-Trac uses Minelabs FBS technology ( 28 frequencies from 1.5khz to 100khz) that it shares with the Explorer lineup. The Excalibur II uses Minelabs BBS technology (17 frequencies from 1.5khz to 25.5khz) that it shares with the much older Sovereign lineup as well as the Excalibur line.

I've used both the FBS and BBS and have found there are some similarities in the way they respond to targets.

Good luck with your water hunting.

Rich (Utah)

If you posted your Excal finds in the Beach and Water SCUBA diving section of the forum you'd get those finds displayed to a lot more people who use the EXCAl as well as other water machines...Jim
