E-Trac A personnel Review

I had an Explorer !! and sold on E-Bay to fund the E-Trac.. I should say partially fund the E-Trac. I bought the E-Trac because I have an area that I hunt that has produced many coins from the 1700 and very early 1800s. I have detected it to death and the boundaries are identified with a fence so the area has been hit hard for the past 3 years and is about the size of a football field. It has been hit for three years and even the week before I bought the E-Trac I found some buttons and a 1777 French 1/2 sol ... I sold my Explorer and I have the E-Trac ,,, Took it to my local park full of crap and I managed to find 3 wheat cents ,,, That was good for a site that would give up 1-2 wheats for a few hours hunting. I then took it to a field that I was hoping was cut and I was finding indian heads 1-2 inches deep ..... found 6 Indians and left ... I could have found these with a cheap detector .. WOW !! Walking away from a virgin site, finding Indians and leaving .... I must be crazy .,but I did not spend $1500.00 to dig up indians 1-2 inches deep... SO I left and went to the field where the French coin was found. Where the coins are 8 inches plus .... I set the machine on max manual sensitivity. Blocked off 1/2 inch from the bottom. and started detecting.. The first coin was a New Jersey Copper down about 11 inches... Guys this is why I bought it .. Could I have it found it with the Explorer II .. Man o man I am not sure but I found it with the E-Trac .. Now I am pleased but .. Not sure if money was well spent... But I proceeded and found 4 musket balls ,.,,, Never found more then two at the site before .. 4 in one day.. I was getting to the point that I think I made the right choice , I then find a large cent real deep and in poor condition. Now all signals remaining at the site are very very deep... You need to really reach for them .. The coins are so very deep so every signal that could be, was always dug ... E-Trac was steady and the buttons 8 in all came up very strong and I really can't see how I missed them.. The site has a lot of iron so the quick response of the E-trac could have helped in finding them hidden in the trash... I returned to the site one more time and found another 6 buttons .. SO for me the detector works great but >>>>> If this site did not exist and I were to hunt another site like foundations or a bean field I don't think I would see any difference and I would not miss that much for the extra dollars> My explorer II would have been fine to use and I would not have missed a beat.... But I knew old coins in the fenced in area were there and very deep. So the machine did work very well .. Yes I am pleased I bought it ... PS... I also found a 1874 Canadian Dime in an area that I knew had barbers and I missed this one with the Explorer ,,,, Very Deep on the dime. E-Trac did well..

I wrote the above a few weeks back now I have another chance to enjoy the E-Trac. Yes .. 100% Yes I did make the right choice. The E-Trac is hot .. I went back once again to the above site and found 21 buttons, 6 musket balls and a 1860 Indian head. I found two rings plated but very old. The machine is so hot on buttons, many were found in open areas 5-8 inches deep. These were missed with the Explorer. I also detected the beach area a few days ago after a major storm and found 8 nickels. I never found that many .. I also found over 30 other coins.. Now after 6 times out .. I did the right thing ,,,, Money Well Spent ....

What I have been seeing with the little use I had on the E-Trac before freeze up was not so much as the depth issue, but many of the good targets it was getting me where close to iron or other trash. I did dig some deeper nails with the E-Trac that were smaller too that I just had to see what they were, so I am sure if it had been a small coin it would have been in my pouch.
From what I have seen and used it I feel it is worth the extra over a SE Pro even though the SE Pro is one heck of a detector that is hard to beat.

Good luck and I hope your success continues

Rick

to test my E-Trac out but I did do some shallow water hunting with it at a site I have gone over and over with every machine and coil I own. This has been a swimming hole for over a hundred years. There is so much trash you can see it lying on the lake bottom as you walk, huge nails are everywhere! So, I took the E-Trac with the 5" Excelerator coil and it was like virgin territory! Wheats were the oldest coins I found except for V and Buffalo nickels but there were over 2 dozen of them along with a mess of clad. Surprisingly, I didn't find any silver :( but all in all that little area has made an E-Trac believer out of me too Jim. We both made the right choice!! HH Mike
