The used ones are often going for new prices. Deals are available on NON display models, such as the Minelab Musketeer and tesoros, but any detector with a display is bringing big bucks.
On a different note...
I wont name any names, but Ive spotted a few BIG name dealers (competitors of this forum) who dont seem to have it all together on ebay. One BIG name seller there takes HORRIBLE photos, dont include ANY technical info (only the stock desc) NEVER includes the weight, which is VERY important to anyone searching for a decent detector for their wife, and have horrible customer service. One such dealer acted like "How dare I ask for a better photo!!!" when I asked for a picture of the WHOLE detector. The photo he had on ebay didnt even show the searchcoil!!! It was JUST the display and armrest! Sure, I could go to a competitor to see a better photo and to get all necessary info, but isnt that EXACTLY what you DONT want your buyer doing??? They really dont care to sell it, or they would try harder. Ive sold thousands of items on ebay with multiple accounts, and the buyers want 1) clear pictures of the WHOLE item, and closeup pics of important details (like display) that are CLEAR and PROPERLY TAKEN, they want clear descriptions as to condition, what is actually included, and AGE of item, in short, they want ALL available info, and many of these dealers dont take the time to list a correct auction. Personally, I dont bid unless the auction is close to as nice as one of my own. I dont like guessing about shipping, and if I have to ask, its a bad mark. Reserves are a bad idea, and not giving the reserve is a worse idea. Polls have suggested that 85% of buyers wont bid on a reserve price auction, and its rated as #3 on the top 10 ebay nonos according to many ebay info pages online.
Just my two cents.
JFTR I dont sell detectors there, I keep all I buy!
