DX-1

Lloyd

New member
Hi all, I finely got a day to play with my new DX-1 , I took it over to the little school with the wood chips on the play ground, I was using the 6 X 10 DD loop and again I was finding lots of Nickels. The DX-1 was working really good and every thing was really easy to find with it but when I was done I changed to the 12" loop and went to a baseball Field, Quarters were showing up as being 5" deep and VDI was 18 - 47 but none of the quarters was over 2" deep, also pennies and dimes were showing up as 22- 30 VDI and 7-8" deep but were at 2-3". O I use the MXT and no pull tabs were found with any coins I dug

Has any one Else had this trouble ?.

Lloyd

Lloyd, I haven't had any trouble from my DX-1 but I don't use the big coils. I would bet it has some thing to do with the coil, you can ask the same question on the Sun Ray Electronics forum and probably get a good answer for the problem. Just ask Ralph at Sun Ray he will know.

Getting those VDI #'s is really strange. I suggest you take Bob's advice and try the Sun Ray forum. The only readings that I've experienced being "off" were with smaller coils and that was just the actual depth of the target. Good luck!

Were you getting the funny readings out of the big coil, or only with the DX-1?

The MXT is calibrated to be accurate with the stock coil, and none of my accesory coils give an accurate depth. The VDI numbers are pretty reliable on targets that shallow, however.

Did you have a ground balance locked in before you switched coils? Maybe it (GB) didn't get updated for the different coil. I would guess it was a problem with the coil, and not your pinpointer.

Keep us posted as to what you find out, Lloyd.

Only with the DX-1.
I have had the MXT for about 3 months and it came with the 12" loop, about a month ago I got the 6 X 10 DD loop and a week or so I got the DX-1 .
I have never had any troble like this out of the 12" loop or any trouble out of the 6 X 10 loop until I added the DX-1.

I've used the combinations you mention with no problems, but I have to admit that I seldom look at the display when pinpointing with the DX-1. I just follow the beep. Once in a while I do look, but haven't noticed any serious variation in the readings.
