DX-1 probe

Looking for opinions, pro or con, on the DX-1 probe. I just installed one on my MXT and don't get much tone on anything 3" or deeper. Is this normal?

Hi Dave. I had one didn't like it for the same reason. I guess there are a lot of people out there that like tmem. I use the UniProbe and can use it with all my detectors, not just one.I'd send it back or talk to them.HH,Jerry

Three inches is all you will get with the Dx-1 probe, which is about 2" more than most! You cannot expect too much, remember it is like a 1" coil. I have one for my DFX and would NOT be without it. It will work in discriminate or pinpoint mode, which is great if you have 2 targets in the same whole. The detectorpro has the advantage of not being tied down to one detector, BUT...I don't think you will get much more depth with it. Plus it does not discriminate, is over 100 dollars more expensive, and is something else to carry around and lose! Give me the Dx-1 ANY DAY! <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

i had the dx-1 and sold it it wasnt very stable on my mxt and not very accurate i prefer the bullseye.

I have had 2 MXT and both have had the DX 1 probe on them and the only time I would have any problem with being unstable was when I had the gain too high. I normaly run at 9 and had no problem, but if I went to the +3 than it would not be very stable. This is the same way with the Explorer I have a X1 for, if the sensitivity is too high it too will chatter when the probe is turned on.
Depth has been better than anything I have seen with the DX1 other than the Uniprobe has a slight edge on depth, but no disc and find if you have alot of metal targets in the ground it is hard to use.
I had a bulleye and if you were not with in a inch of the target or touching it you got no signal. I find with the DX 1 I can pull the pinpoint trigger back on the MXT and get a good 3 inches of depth and have a disc probe in the center postion. Now that I have one on the MXT I couldnt be without it as I find the targets faster and dig less and be ready to find the next target.

My gain was set at +1, I just might be expecting too much. Thanks.

I will bring up one point--My FIRST DX1 did the same thing--I had it for over 3 mo. and I had QUIT using it because it was so UNSTABLE I was using my VIBRAPROBE all the time--Well I finaly decided that it had a LOOSE wire SO I called RALPH and found that had trouble with the FIRST DX1 that had the CURL CORD wire next to the box--I sent it in and what came back was a 30 In. STRAIGHT wire NO curl cord---The new 1 was a %100 better (Wrong) it was more like %1000 better---It works like a dream---I can get up to 4 in. now NO falsing at all---Works just like a small 1 in. coil should--Maybe you should order a new 1 with the straight cord---Bet it would do the job like you thought it would---DeathWind1
