Dusted off the V3i and found 28 cents today

The 1857 quarter is pretty worn and the 1852, 3 cent piece is pitted and stained but they are mine.......

A club member found where a small town used to be in the mid 1800's and was all but gone later in the 1800's but the people who lived there left a few memories for us to find in what is now a bean field.

The only coil I use on the V3i is the SEF 10X12 Bill. As far as the VDI goes, I really did not pay much attention, there was a lot of iron in the ground and targets were not textbook, just getting an occasional high tone. I dug my share of square nails and melted lead but one of them turned out to be a seated quarter. It was no deeper than 5 inches but I really don't know how deep it was. I have a tendency to over dig my holes and then look for the target in the diggings.

The 3 center was a little different...... I was a late comer to this location and a lot of nice coins have already been found there including 4 large cents, a half dime, seated dime and a 2 real from the 1700's so there were quite a few filled holes everywhere. One of those holes had a pretty good signal from two ways but nothing from the other two, so I'm guessing I hit it just right. I thought it could be an Indian, maybe another piece of lead . I opened up the hole and and the DX-1 said something was in the sidewall at about 4 inches deep. That was the prettiest little silver I ever saw, all black with just the rim all the way around a bright silver. A buddy that was watching me dig it called the silver 3 center because I didn't have a clue, it was too small for a dime.

Nice Larry! I kinda knew that would be the rest of the story but I wanted to be sure everything was still the same with you all. The three is one of my favorite coins .I have been fortunate enough to dig two and all I know was both were a complete surprise .I think both came up in the high 40's so a small silver was not expected. Congrats again and the seated is real nice too...................... Bill

I went back to the same field and it has just been plowed...........

Add another penny to the field total .... now $ 0.29 but this one is a pretty toasted no date Flying Eagle cent...... Another first for me.
