DUMMY QUESTION

pr0digy

New member
Hi guys,

First of all I want to mention that I'm just a newbie so please have patience when you read this post.
I have the next scenario: a big amount (tens of kg) of metal (gold) buried deep (more than 5m) somewhere in a "known" area (10.000 m2).
My questions are: is it possible to detect any metal buried so deep? if the answer of the previous question is positive, what kind of the detector should be used? is any truth in the David Villanueva's book "The Successful Treasure Hunter's Secret Manual: Discovering Treasure Auras in the Digital Age"? - the metal aura thing sounds like a SF movie for me.

Thank you very much for reading and for any answers.
Cheers,
pr0digy

Welcome to the forums!

Hand carried units not likely, a GPR possibly. The units are very expensive, may want to look into renting one vs buying.

May want to move your post to general discussion forum

HH,

Tom

Thank you for the fast answer, Tom!
Do you have any specific model of GPR in mind? And maybe a price range for this specific case?

I would like to move my post in the General Discussion forum, but I didn't figure it out how to do it yet.

Cheers,
M.

I can't answer the question of where to buy a GPR, etc..... Most of us here are into regular metal detecting (as the forum-name suggests). But I will say, in regard to your initial question, that most of exciting treasure legend stuff you will read, .... is just that: legend. Fanciful legends. Fun to read a "lost mine" or "lost CW payroll" type stuff, but I wouldn't invest a lot of $$ into buying equipment to go out and chase the "lost dutchman" mine type stories. If you read closely into them, it's always prefaced with the phrases like "it is said that ...." , and so forth. Even if the stories have basis's in fact, still save your time. Because all the rest woven around them (the " ... and it was never recovered...", etc...) are all still fanciful legends.

The human mind wants seeeoooo hard to believe these stories (lest you be "left out"), that we tend to dismiss the other possible explanations (or that it's all downright made up, even from the git-go), and hold on to the dream that we will get rich :) If you've ever gotten ahold of treasure mags from the late 1960s and early 1970s, you'd find that each issue was FULL of sure-fire such ghost stories. You know the drill: the dying miner stumbles into the wild west saloon, the lone survivor of an indian attack. As curious on-lookers circle around him, he spills the tale of an amazing gold filled mine. He leaves 5 clues as to where the mine is located. Unfortunately, the miner dies of his wounds before ever being able to re-claim his fortune, etc....

So if you're going to go out and buy the GPR, be sure to go to the buy-sell forum of the various md'ing forums, and ....... when you see people selling old treasure mags from the '60s and '70s, buy up a bunch of them too. That way you'll never run out of treasures to look for :)

Nice reply. Thanks again!
Let's say though that money is not an issue and the only challenge is to find/or not something of which existence is "blurry" for most.
I would buy/build a device only to prove something, getting rich is not what concerns me right now.
Nobody said anything about Villanueva's book "The Successful Treasure Hunter's Secret Manual: Discovering Treasure Auras in the Digital Age". Would that be just a waste of time?

Regards,
M.

If you are looking for a secret manual to treasure hunting..... its research, lots of research. News papers, old maps, historical society, and even talking to some of the really old people in the area you wish to search. I dont remember the name of the device besides a GPR, but i have a friend who pulls a device behind a 4 wheeler, much like meteor hunting. Not nears as expensive.

Dew

Hi Dew,

What does it mean expensive for you (when you refer to the GPR)?
I think you misunderstood me regarding "looking for a secret manual to treasure hunting". It's more about finding a solution to a given problem.
It would be interesting if you can give me more info regarding your friend's device.

Thanks,
M.

Prodigy,

GPR prices can range from $5000 used up to $30000 new and upwards to 1M. I can't recommend a website out of respect for our sponsors. Maybe some of them can chime in, if not google GPR and your location you might have some one close by you. Also I haveheard great things about nokta products from kellyco. I have personally demoed the goldgate plus. But you may be intrested in their top of the line models due to cash not being an issue.

Edited: also check out kellyco, okm engineering. However I can't give you a review on okm as I have never used them.

HH,

Tom

Thank you very much for the useful information, Tom. You you mention "the sponsor" are you talking about MineLab? Don't they have any powerful tool for my area of interest?

Cheers,
M.

Thank you Prodigy,

I am a minelab fan, but outside of the general public they do tincker with gpr but you would need to contact a sells rep for information on that.

Sponsors are the one listed in the banners all over the website. Kellyco was mentioned because they are a sponsor that carries the specific items you are intrested in (They are a great company to do business with). Minelab however is a manufacture that supplies to vendors/sponsors as they typical dont sells to individuals.

Forums rules dont allow links to vendors outside, because it is not a good business practice. The general forum populus use the sponsor because of their proven rep, trust and other perks specific to forum memebers.

Let me know if you need specific help on gpr units, feel free to pm me any questions

HH,

Tom

Pretty radical set up...

The only okm products I have seen used were rentals for archeology (cavern/tomb hunting). The most common ones I have seen used is their rover and rover c models. They are making some amazing finds. Exp 4000 should have no issue finding what you seek (the ground coverage is amazing). They offer training free if you purchase a unit, as far as I know they seem as easy as running a laptop.

Just be sure and tell kellyco (Wanda) Tom aka detecterx sent you.

If you need a hand digging up several kgs of gold let me know, I will bring the sunscreen :smoke:

HH,

Tom

This might be a crazy question but I have not been able to find a "General Discussion Forum". Does anyone know if there is a place to ask a general question? Most of the 'Jump to forum' sections from the drop-down link take you to specific topics. Does a General Discussion Forum exist?

(Talk about a Dummy question, this probably is one)

That's the one

It's seems OKM 4000 is not working for me. Maybe is the soil...clay soil and the humidity is pretty high. This device can go up to 3-4 m though :(.
Do you have any other suggestion? Which is the most powerful GPR device that you know?

Thank you in advance!

Prodigy,

This may be my dummy question

But your saying the okm is only getting you 3-4 m.

Ok so a little math on my end

1 meter = 3.2808 feet

So

They say it can go 80ft, but trust me is not. We meet false advertising anywhere around us, any company would say anything to increase sales.
I'm starting to think that what I'm looking for doesn't exist, it's like a Holy Grail for the treasure hunters. At least is doesn't exist on the market...but I'm almost sure that
someone already build it.

prodigy
