Dumbest X Terra Question ever asked?

gcollins

New member
I am very picky about my detectors! I was wondering if it would hurt anything if I put my rain cover on and just left it on? What is you guys thoughts?

Thanks
Greg Collins

Is when I change batteries.
I too am careful in taking care of my equipment....It is'nt Cheap !.....I was affraid that with a couple months use ,,the words might get rubed off the membrane touch pads .So I ordered the cover for it,and leave it on.:compass::minelab:

is I have found that sand, especially fine beach sand will find a way to get under the open part of the cover and gets trapped between the cover and the face of the X Terra. This isn't good since this sand can scratch the faceplate if it's allowed to rub against the screen, so I've removed the cover a few times just to clean out all the sand that's accumulated, and then put it back on again. Just an idea that works for me.

On my X-50, I just got some clear contact paper and put it across the entire face. It's totally transparent, and it keeps the lens and touchpad from being scratched. A $2 roll will last about 20 years.

Contact paper is for putting on shelves in cabinets. It's really plastic. It has no sticky residue. It's much like the plastic that covers the lens or glass on most new things you buy, which you usually peel off. You can buy it at any hardware store. Some is translucent, some transparent.

Hi

Try this one, you will never find better. Got it on my GPS units and will try to make out sizes for all of my other electronics with a screen in danger.

Ofcourse you will need the controlhousing cover aswell but will not worry about the letters coming off the buttons, those who worries about that can be just as worried when the housing cover is on. Then its not the fingers and dirt that rubs but the plastic. With a sealed and adhered cover on the screen they just never get rubbed.

It scratches just like the (replacable Dust /Rain Cover)......
B-U-T........a glue on will eventually have to be replaced with another (because it will get so scratched up...you cannot see whats underneth)
..............tHEN WHEN YOU PEAL IT OFF TO REPLACE IT......ALL THE NUMBERS AND WORDS WILL COME OFF WITH IT ...

The clear contact paper does not scratch anything. I've been using it on all my screens (laptop, GPS, detectors, etc.) for years, and it comes off cleanly without any residue, and leaves no scratches. I'm really not sure what you're using, but the product I use can in no way scratch or leave residue. It's called Con-Tact Decorative Covering (transparent), and I bought mine at Ace Hardware, but its available at practically any hardware store. It is the exact same product that comes on screens when you buy them as new. You just cut it to the size you want, and place it on. Comes off easily.

I am reluctant to keep electronics covered up with plastic or rubber covers because I'm afraid of condensation forming under the covering and leading to corrosion of solder connections and etc.

From most of the answers you're getting it doesn't look like that's a problem.

In very heavy, long term humidity perhaps leaving the cover off would be prudent?

My two centavos......

The only dumb question is the one that never gets asked Greg. It's not a bad idea, as long as you take it off and clean the control box and inside of the cover after every day's hunting, with a damp cloth.
