I have been putting hummingbird feeders out for the birds, but the raccoons around hereabouts must be taking day college courses-They have figured out how to tip the feeders up and drink the sugar water out of the feeders, while the feeders remain on the shepherd's hooks. The hooks are short,so the feeders are close to the ground.........I was mystified as to what was draining them overnight and leaving them hanging on the hooks, until we came home after dark the other night and caught one in the act of standing on his hind legs, and drinking the feeder dry in the Durango's headlights......He was a BIIIIG one, about the size of a medium size dog.SO,we have to start bringing them in at night, before they carry them away one night.
