Dug my deepest dime in 35 years today. An HONEST and measured 12"

... and it was freakin' CLAD!!:bouncy: .... WONDERFUL:ranting:

It took me over 20 minutes to chisel down through this clay/rock/dry/crap mix:cool:...and after waiting 35 years to find a true measured 12" deep dime.... I get this....CLAD!

What a LETDOWN to see cruddy ORANGE at the bottom of the hole instead of silver.

Oh well. It is what it is...and still a thrill for me to dig one that deep.

Just wish it would have been silver... instead of getting slapped in the face with CLAD.

Funny thing was that I had just dug a barber dime about 10 feet away from about 9" down so I had visions of seated silver when I saw the depth meter absolutely buried.

Oh well...it happens...."Beam me up Scotty"

:usaflag:For the love of the hobby Bryce...for the love of the hobby.

You've been hunting for 35 years? You hardly even look that old.

I feel your pain. Depth meter pegged at the bottom and text book good signal, or at least iffy in a good way and... and... and... major disappointment.

Next time.

Chris

At least you did find a silver coin to go along with that beautiful clad dime.:clapping: Makes you wonder how a clad dime can get that deep. Must have been some fill dirt over that area maybe huh? HH.

Eddie

Sorry about your disappointment Bryce with the really deep clad dime.
We find a lot of deep clad coins in our part of the world.....makes a person
wonder how they get so deep so fast! At least you were able to find a
nice Barber dime to take home with you....congratulations on that.

What coil were you using when you hit that dime? Thus far the deepest coins for me have been two seperate ones- A V-nickle in one hole and a Indian in another at about 11" deep. That was on my GT using the stock 10" coil when the ground was wet, which we haven't had around here lately. I'm anxious to see if the 12x10 gets even deeper. So far it's getting me wheats deeper than the stock coil in dry conditions. The V and Indian hit so loud and ID'd perfectly that I think they could have been another few inches deeper and I would have still got them. I'm talking on land of course. In the sand in my area coins in the mid teens and deeper are no big deal.

Fill dirt has its advantages on occasion. Ive picked up some seated in places they just shouldnt have been because of fill dirt. Kind of sucks when it work the other way thou especially when it takes a good deal of you digging time to get to the darn thing. On the bright side.... you got some silver .

Thanks Dew. That's a good point. This was the most impossible to dig in ground that I've ever experienced.

Howdy Critterhunter. I was using the 10 x 12 SEF coil. I have found a ton of 10" deep coins on land...quite a few 11" wheaties and dimes (some of which were right at 11.5"...but never a true measured 12"er until now.

Thanks Eddie. Had to be fill dirt. It was the nastiest and hardest crap I have ever dug in. Like they mixed concrete in with it:cool:

Eddie in Poulsbo you should have seen the look on Bryce's face when he worked for 20 minutes getting little chunks out of the hole. We were both sure it was going to be seated. When he saw orange I thought he was going to have a cow. All he could mumble was..."you gotta' be %$&@^ kidding me":crylol:
I then reminded him he had just found a barber but all he could do was show me his blistered hand and mumble something about "^%@&*ing fill dirt".:bouncy:

Bryce,
At least you got paid at the end of your dig ......I dug down the same way hunting with my E Trac ...It was in the WORST dirt in the park .....I went down very close to the 12" mark ....This was in a park where I have dug many Silver coins ....I was so pysyc'd !!!.....I couldn't belive my eyes when I was reading a HIGH SILVER number and I saw GOLD !!!....It was GOLD all right ....It was one of those PITA Gold screw caps that they used YEARS ago on cheap wine ......Imagine how long it took that Wino to bury that cap that I found ? ...... .....It wasn't funny at the time !!......Jim

CONRATS on the BARBER at least...thats a awesome find in its self! What coil were you using bro.?
!2" on a dime thats amazing!!!!
