dug bullet casing

They are not CW related. They appear to be center fire. I think the only metalic cartridges used during the war were rim fire...d2
 
:usaflag:Since we are IDing bullets, can someone shed some light on this one? I found it at an old homesite. It's a rimfire round..that's all I know.
 
:usaflag:Ok...did you compare it to the quarter it's sitting next to? A 22 shell is'nt even as long as a quarter. That sucker is almost as big as my pinky finger.
 
oldest centerfire cartridge that i know of was the .50 Govt & it was used by the military post civil war from like mid 1860's/mid 1870's. that casing appears to small to be that cartridge but that info outta give u a time period guess and something to go off of.
 
:usaflag:An older gent in town..who is a bit of a gun nut...figured it is somewhere in the .38 range..mid to late 1800's. And especially rare due to it being unfired. Probably ain't worth nothin' but still a great find.
