Dug Another Walker And A WWI MTC Collar Disk

Sooper Dave

Well-known member
The weather has been great around here and I was able to get in a nice hunt. My last coin on the hunt before this one was a 43 Walker so when I got a shallow 1-46 2-46 on the Etrac starting off, I thought no way is this going to be a silver half. I dug a deep plug but the target was only down about 3". I used my hands to split the plug open and revealed that awesome sight of big silver! I couldn't not believe my luck on another Walker. I finished up my hunt with some other nice old coins and as I was headed out I got a great signal that sounded like a silver quarter, but what popped out looked like a button of some kind. It was so caked with dirt that I could not see any detail to tell what I had. I could tell it was a collar disk because of the threaded screw post on the back. I used a tooth pick and a dry toothbrush to clean it up and then researched it to be a WWI Motor Transport Corps collar disk. That was a fun surprise. I sure hope spring has sprung, HH David

Great finds. Thanks again for posting your numbers on some of your items. Those are helping me in the field when I get different numbers (one's that don't pop up real often).

Congrats on the big silver. What coil are you running?

Thanks Delta Digger. I keep the Ultimate 13 on 95% of the time. I am really impressed with how it separates and hits hard on deep signals. I have been using it now for over 2 years. When I want to go back over the really trashy spots I use the 6x8 or the X5 when it's really thick.

Thanks Silver Bullet. I use the numbers as a guideline of where things should fall. I try to dig it all especially with some depth. I am still surprised at where some deep old coins come in on the numbers. If you are looking for just text book numbers you will miss some nice coins and relics. I know it's tough in the trash not to cherry pick out the best signals. But it's best to try some odd numbers just to see what it could be.

Nice collar disc! I'd rather find one of those than the half dollar. I love finding WW1 relics, especially in such good condition.

Thanks Mark! Yeah I feel the same way. It's not often I find any WWI related pieces.
