GRAY GHOST

hey everybody. frank [olddigger] and myself hit a new spot yesterday, hunted around for a couple of hours, and wasn't finding ANYTHING. i had retrieved a single enfield bullet months before in a hunt cut short by my detecting pardner's sudden illness, and had been rarin' to get back out there. but, .22 shells, modern bullets, and 12th georgias came out the ground by the dozens. aggravation and disbelief began to set in. we both knew it was a spot with a lot of potential, but it wasn't producing at all - swing after swing, nothing. we've all been there before. i realized it might be a good time to take a mid hunt break, and re - think my strategy and game plan. i'm glad i did.

after a short refresher, i started detecting a small ridge and immediatley hit two harmonica reeds. about three feet away, i got a very deep 'pip' ghost hit. if you hunt with the tejon, you'll know the sound i'm talking about. knowing full well it was a button, i dug down over 12 inches and retrieved this sweet coat sized high dome virginia staff officer's button. there's about 70% gold gilt on it, a solid shank, and the extra quality backmark. it's solid as a rock, with a small push about 5 o'clock. i went on to dig a neat floral button and a regular flat button with the thread in the shank. theyr'e soaking now, but it was a great day indeed. frank had a pretty good day too, but i'll leave it to him to tell you about it.

sorry about the blurry pics, i'm getting better at it. just remember... never give up. thanks for reading, good luck, and hh!

Very very nice! It's in great shape. :clapping: Thanks for sharing, Nancy
