today I met up with a buddy (nonickels) from Buckeye treasure forum and we started on the 1925 house it was extremely trashy, we both got a wheat right away then nothing.

From there we went to an old school, I had some kind of interference and no matter what channel I had on noise cancel it would not settle down until sensitivity was set so low It was worthless to even hunt there.

Took a break for lunch then we headed to another school I got a good signal and dug down just under the grass and found a whole roll of dimes! the paper was rotted away, but all the dimes were in a neat row, sorry about the cruddy pic, I had to use my cell phone camera.

I think I only dug about 5 pennies today that school had dimes quarters everywhere. Ended up finding $8.95 in clad, that must be a record for me...lol

from there we hit an old park and I found 1 wheat and a 1926 merc dime.(silver #38 for the season)

Was the roll of dimes SILVER?

boy do I wish!!!!!! they were all modern dimes, only 1/2 inch under the dirt, must not have been there too long, just long enough for the paper to rot away

Congrats on the silver and the wheats! That roll of dimes was a very good find! That sure helps the clad total real quick. Just curious was the tone higher than normal for a single dime? Very good huting, Beale.

nope same tone, and showed a #38 in all directions

Man you seem to have a lot of sites to try! (I'm jealous) Great hunting! I find that very interesting that the roll of dimes still read 38.

well all schools and parks are public, plus I ask all the time for permission, all they can say is no! I average about 7 out of 10 yeses on private houses

Guess I am going to have to get the nerve to ask for permission in the old part of town which is only about 9-10 city blocks. I understand that our main street wasn't paved till the 50's the town is only about 125 yrs old. Where the town originated has been totally reconstructed and a large park now occupies the site. All of our public schools have six foot chain link fences and security guards at most. I can't get near a school so far. I am trying to research and find some old places close by that I can go. I could go 30 mi. to New Orleans but other than the parks most sites are considered historic and detecting not allowed. Its too dangerous also as far as I am concerned, they shoot 300-400 each year over there. I have found that there are two towns in the Pearl River Swamp that were forced to be torn down and abandoned when they built John Stennis rocket engine test center in MS about 20 miles from me. I have aerial photos and topo charts but its all grown over. I went over there last month and the deer flys almost sucked all my blood in just a few minutes and they were all over my SUV as I drove away. I will go back this winter and feel that if I can locate where any of the buildings were I may find silver or wheats since they were abandoned around 1960 so there shouldn't be any clad.
